After years of watching the infomercials, reading through hundreds of review, asking person after person, and testing mattress after mattress (in store and especially comparing with the memory foam beds), my husband and I decided to purchase the King Size Select Comfort Air Mattress 5000. Now, 3 years later, it is definitely the best investment we have ever made. I wish we had the bed during my 5 pregnancies. I'm positive it would have helped tremendously. My husband has also had sinus surgery, several knee surgeries, back surgery, and several other minor back things like cortisone shots, etc. This bed has definitely helped easing him back onto the road to recovery. Additionally, you aren't disturbed when one person turns over or gets up or lies down.
One surprising thing, is that if you have kids that like to jump on beds, this mattress is a fantastic deterrent. They simply cannot bounce back!
Price wise it is very comparable to standard, high quality, brand name mattresses. Of course there are mattress sets that cost a lot less, but over our 20 years of marriage, we have "been there-done that." No other sets we've bought have ever come close to the comfort we have with the Select Comfort bed, and they haven't lasted nearly as long.
We did not pay the additional set-up fee because my husband wanted to save money and do it himself. Personally, my suggestion is that you pay the additional fee for someone else to set it up for you. The actual set up of the bed is very easy. Attaching the legs was ridiculously time consuming. It literally doubled our set-up time.
We did purchased the waterproof mattress cover (a must for us with small children who ocassionally might have an accident). Has worked wonderfully to protect our investment. We also opted for the corded remote controls versus cordless, which, if you're like my husband and kids, would have been lost within a matter hours.
Don't bother purchasing the over-priced sheets. I specifically asked if they would pill. For the outrageous price, I EXPECT the sheets not to pill. Guess what? Within 2 weeks, they did pill. I am very funny about sleeping on sheets that feel like I'm sleeping on sand or cracker crumbs. Not going to happen, unless I happen to be camping. I washed the sheets, and took them back within the allotted return time period (KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!!) I ended up purchasing a set of $70 sheets from Walmart and they are of better quality and have never pilled in the three years we've owned them.
Finally, if you can afford it, I would definitely recommend get the adjustable bed. This way you can sit up to watch tv or read, etc.
In the end, we are very happy with our investment and would highly recommend the Select Comfort Air Mattress to anyone looking for an awesome bed.
I hope this helps anyone looking for a new mattress!
Blessings,
Jocelyn
