It has been about eight years since I asked the fateful question- *What is the best top coat?*. And the last eight years have been fabulous as far as nail polish is concerned- I found the best top coat EVER and I am still thrilled wth it.
WHAT IS SECHE VITE TOP COAT LIKE?
What is so shocking about SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT is that I can put it on very thick wet nails and within minutes it is set to the point that I can use my hands, although I don't want to bang my nail hard on anything, as it will still smudge. However, if I can discipline myself to wait just a half hour or so, it is usually to the point where my nails are completely set and I am okay.
SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT is a bit thicker than most top coats. It applies nice and evenly to nails and seems to be self leveling. That is a nice feature as well.
The brush is good and just the right amount of spring to allow for accurate application.
The handle on top is decent although not as nice and grippy as China Glaze tops are, but the difference is not that big.
WHAT I LIKE AND DON'T LIKE
I love that this is fast drying, although each individual polish works differently with this top coat. I have found that most do well, except some of the Sally Hansen 3D polishes and China Glazes take longer to set than the rest.
I also love the long lasting finish that SECHE VITE FAST DRYING TOP COAT has- I have often had it last over a week including a week where my hands were in water a lot. Again this also depends on the base coat used and polish, but polish does last a LOT longer with SECHE VITE FAST DRYING TOP COAT than other top coats I have tried.
What is a bit frustrating is that if I want to remove the polish sometimes it won't come off easily with standard nail polish remover. I have often had to resort to more pure acetone at times which I do not want to do as it tends to dry out nails.
As a result, I now only use SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT on nails I want to stay in place a LONG time. It is not for those who change their nail color daily, that is for sure.
Another use that I have found is craft use. If I want to put a finish on metal or other items that needs to last, often I have found SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT to be the perfect solution. It is non- yellowing, it stays put, and it seals very well.
Over time, if you do not make sure that the bottle is closed pretty quickly each time you use it, the polish can get VERY thick making it hard to use at the end of the bottle. This can be a pain. However, don't try to thin it out with remover or acetone- IT WON'T WORK. Trust me, it won't work at all. The key is to use it up as quicky as you can so it won't go to waste.
WHERE TO FIND
I found the best places to get SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT are at CVS stores, TRADE SECRET, but the best prices are at SALLY'S BEAUTY SUPPLY. I last saw SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT at SALLY'S BEAUTY SUPPLY for only $6 which is cheaper than the usual $9 it is most places.
