Sears.com —

My son recieved a gift from Sears.com.  The package arrived and no where on the packing slip did it state who it was from.  Also, the toy was only able to be returned to their toy distrubution center.  It could not be returned to the store AND it stated on the slip they would not process exchanges.  Nice.  I called and talk to someone at customer service as first of all it was a very large toy and I was not thrilled I would have to pay to have it sent back.  I also wanted to know what we could do about an exchange.  After all it was a gift and he had that particular toy already so we just wanted to exchange for something else.  We were told, sorry, but certain items are for sale online only and can only be returned by mail at my cost.  Ok fine, but it was a GIFT so we want to EXCHANGE it.  Again told, sorry but we are unable to process exchanges through our toy distrubution, you can return it for a refund.  I was like, well it was a GIFT, will WE get a gift card?  I was told no, the purchaser would get the refund.  I would need to contact whomever bought it for him and let them know I was returning the item.  The purchaser then would recieve a refund within 30 days.  Ummmm..... NICE!

I opted NOT to pay to have to return this large item, going through having to contact the person who bought it for him to tell them I am returning it, watch for a refund, and oh by the way could you buy him something else?! I'll probably end up putting it on ebay or something.

Sears.com seriously needs to revamp their gift options.  I mean what kind of customer service is this concerning GIFT returns/exchanges?  At least if I have to mail it back and you don't offer an exchange, then offer ME the person who recieved the gift a gift card in the value, so I don't have to tell the person who bought it oh sorry, watch for your refund and then kindly buy me something else.  When I finally figured out who bought it for my son, she told me I could return it to the store if he already had it.  I was like actually no, it can only be mailed back for a refund to you.  She was pretty shocked as the website did not say this at all, and the fact it did not say anywhere it from from her.  I don't think I will ever purchase anything online from them with this kind of policy.  As their "no hassle returns" is quite the lie.

I agree that it can create a major problem for customer's who receive a package and can not determine who sent it. This is true for typical gifts and gift registry purchases. All gift registry purchases should have a card included unless the purchaser prefers to remain anonymous.
