Sears.com —

I recently went to Sears to buy four new tires for my car.  I found the tires I wanted in the sears weekly flyer and called to see if they were in stock.  I was told they were and my husband, two year old son and drove 15 miles into town.  When we arrived, my husband spoke with the salesman and told him which tires we were interested in--they only had two.  My husband then agreed to the salesman's suggested tire that was more expensive, again they only had three.

The salesman then suggested a third tire that was a bit more expensive.  My car was put on the life, the car was alligned, and an hour later the car was off the lift and in the parking lot.  Up until this point my son had been pretty well behaved--the salesman then came into the waiting room and told us they only had three of the third tire.  We then agreed to a fourth, even more expensive tire, which was finally put on my car after being in Sears for two hours.  The price for the tires we had originally gone to get were 34.00 each on sale, the tires we left with were 80.00 a piece.

We got into the car and drove home, about half way home I said to my husband that the car was handling funny.  A few minutes later we smelled burning rubber.  Finally when we got home my husband crawled under the car and found that the tires that they had installed were not the tires we had purchased and were in fact too big for the car.  The burning rubber smell was from the tire rubbing on the shock absorber.

My husband had to work the next day so I had to load my two year old and my eighty-year old mother up on a day with freezing rain and go back to sears.  The correct tires were placed on my car  and I was given a $20 gift certificate for my trouble.  Believe me when I say my trouble and time was worth far more than $20 and I will never return to sears again.

I have shopped at Sears for 35 years now and never had them put the wrong size tires on my vehicle. Must have been a new person selling tires as they have a policy not to install any tire too big for the vehicle. You should file a claim with them and then get your car checked for hidden damage.
