SearchMe Review

You CAN judge a book by its cover.........and a web page, too!
Finally, Searchme.com figured out that sometimes we like to go back and find a page we forgot to bookmark, but one we know we'll RECOGNIZE.    The Local Newspaper?  Nope.   The page with the big picture of the lighthouse?  Nope.   The one that looks like its by a local realtor?  Nope...........hey, THERE it is, the one with the black background and the giant seashell picture.   THIS is where I found that great vacation rental I was telling you about!

This is how SearchMe.com works.  It posts the results of your search term VISUALLY.  There's a reduced page of the #1 result, right there in front of you, and off to the right, a little stack of all the other options for you to click through - each one a miniature representation of the web page represented by the URL in the search results! 

Besides being fun to use, this is a good tool for web-savvy users who are just visually wired.   If you can tell quickly what looks most like what you want, you will love SearchMe.  I think the applications are more useful for people trying to return to a page they've visited before, but that's probably not a large enough business model to base a major search engine launch on, so I'll be anxious to hear how any of the rest of you find SearchMe.com to be useful! 

Libby's Hot Tip:  As of May 1, 2008, Searchme.com was in Beta version;  the results it gives are quite different from those you'll get on Google.  For example, a web site I own, promoting Sanibel Island, is a well-established 12-year-old web site and rates #5 on Google under the search term "Sanibel."  I don't see any of its pages coming up in the beta version of SearchMe.com, so I am leery as to its formula for rankings.  Of course, this is presently in beta version.  I cdefinitely can't argue that it's visually pleasing.   So stay tuned!
