I don't know where to begin. Oh right, I run a business that relys on customer data on my computer. Well one day I had a drive crash, and I thought I'd lost about 2 years of client files. I was sick. The last backup i'd done was so long ago, not to mention I had jobs that were due within days. I was able to bring my computer back online with a new hard drive, and tried the first of the problem drives - Nothing. Then the second and bang, there was my information. I vowed not to ever let that happen again. So I went looking for an easy backup system, and in the process I found Mirra (not bought out by Seagate). They produce what they call a personal sever, I guess I wouldn't go that far because it lacks a few things I would look for in a server. But what it does do is incredible!! First you plug the unit into your network and tuen the power on then run the software on each of the computers you'd like to backup and then you choose what information you want to backup. You can pick whole directory trees or just one file if you'd like. It then begins to backup all the files you choose on each of the computers. This process can take some time so best to do it late at night when your not going to use the PC. The files are not only available to you via the software installed on you computer, but via their secure web portal. So you can download any file from anywhere you have internet access. WOW!!! Not only that, but you don't even have to remember to do anything. Once you tell it to backup a folder for example, it does. Every time a change takes place; new file, changed file, deleted file the software updates it to the server. Let say you delete a file, well it doesn't get deleted on the server, it just shows it was deleted on your PC (or MAC) and if you'd like to restore it, just click restore and bang it's back. It also versions files so if you change something in a file and save it, then find out that you shouldn't have made the change or you deleted informatio you shouldn't have you just go in and your able to restore I believe upto 3 past versions, while still keeping the one you have now. My only gripes are that you can't see the unti in your network or access it that way. I think they should allow for that, even if it's only limited to part of the drivespace. Speaking about drivespace; the other problem I have with the unit is that if you buy a 160gb model, tha's just what your stuck with. There is no upgrading availble -- Bad design in my opinion. Even with those flaws, I love the Mirra and would (and DO) recommend this to anyone who uses a computer and needs to keep things safe.
