SeaWorld San Antonio - San Antonio, TX —

SeaWorld Texas is one of the biggest family-friendly hotspots in the San Antonio area. Little kids love the whale and dolphin shows, big kids love the roller coasters, dads love having a free brewski over in the Anheuser Busch hospitality house. It's a park the whole family can be happy with.

I like the very wholesome feel of the park. It emphasises nature and the wonders of the outdoor world, in spite of the obvious canned nature of the shows. Where else can a kid get a chance to feed a dolphin, a sea lion, and a lorakeet? Probably nowhere, and so we go back. We love the penguin house, and we love watching the divers in the tank in the large aquarium.

Our favorite shows are the Viva Dolphin show and the Shamu shows. Used to be that we'd have picked Shamu as the slam-dunk first choice, but the show has been watered down a whole lot in recent years and made about as unexciting and dull as possible. The taped nature show dude probably lends some name appeal, but it has zero energy compared to the way they did the show up until about 2004. Since then, it's okay, but the energy level today is solidly in the "Snoozarama Zone".

Viva still has its pizzazz though. We like it's lighthearted mix of comedy, music, special effects, and nature. The dolphins are great, the divers are spectacular. Love Viva!

I'd tell you to check out their web site, but it's the slowest, most horribly unusable web site I've ever seen....but I'll be gracious and simply say, "It sucks!"

Back to the park: SeaWorld's rides are nowhere near as good as the ones at nearby Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The shows are a lot better, the park atmosphere is more wholesome, but the rides are few and generally unspectacular. There's just one decent roller coaster: Steel Eel. They have another inverted steel coaster called Great White, but the ride is so short I can't recommend it. They also have a decent log flume ride, and a white water raft ride, and this year, they've opened a new boat ride called Journey to Atlantis. Haven't tried it yet, but the commercials make it look decent...

Our family enjoys SeaWorld and we've had annual passes every summer until last year, when we switched to Six Flags passes, simply because the kid vote says rides count for more nowadays. I tend to agree, but I still like the general mood and the shows at SeaWorld a whole lot better than those at Six Flags. Good park though....good park.

So many good points here. Too bad about the web site. Can pull off a theme park and not a web site???? Hope they see your review.
