Sea Monkeys are fun and educational.  Just add water and they hatch almost immediately.  It's great not only for kids, but for anybody who would like a simple, easy to care for pet.  Watching them swim around can be calming.  You can also play with them by shining a light around.  They will move to follow the light.  They are so easy to care for that you only have to feed them once a week and replenish the water as it evaporates.
