When the Automatic Shower Cleaner by Scrubbing Bubbles first came out, I was definitely intrigued. Could it really be that easy to set up this device in your shower and have it clean all by itself every day? Still, I couldn't see my way to pay the almost $20 for the starter system.
Flash ahead to my sister telling me the Automatic Shower Cleaner was perhaps the best thing she's ever used in her shower. According to her, it even works if you're starting with a dirty shower. It was actually cleaning it, and not just maintaining an already cleaned shower.
Last summer we redid the kids' bathroom, and it was a no-brainer for me. I wanted to keep it pristine, so I took the plunge and bought the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner system. It's motored by two AA batteries, and after attaching the provided metal hanger, it hangs up over your shower head. A special bottle of cleaner is placed upside down in the dispenser. After showering you push a button, and it gives you a fifteen second warning before it starts spraying. In case you're tempted to ignore the warning and stick your face in there anyway to see if it's really spraying, trust me it is, and don't ask me how I know.
The results have been a clean tub and shower for the kids. It only needs to be run once a day, but knowing that my two kids won't remember to hit the button every day, I told them both to do it, hoping that after the novelty wore off, it would get done nearly every day. It probably only gets run a few times a week, but the shower still stays clean. There are a few places it doesn't reach, but those are spots that don't collect a lot of dirt anyway. Those areas can be wiped down once a week, and being that they aren't too dirty and there aren't that many, it doesn't take long at all. For the most part, the new shower still looks new after eight months.
Forward to a few weeks ago with me wishing my husband's and my shower was as easy to clean as my kids. I checked into the Scrubbing Bubbles system and found it was now cheaper. True, you get less with it, but it's still nice to have a startup cost of only $12 or $13. What I found is that the batteries aren't included now (although truth be told I can't remember whether they were included before or not), and only one bottle of cleaner is included, whereas it used to come with two. I find this arrangement to be perfectly acceptable. I'd rather spend a little less now and have to replace it sooner.
I'll admit, I started out with a shower that wasn't recently cleaned. Nevertheless, within a few days, it was clean. Again, there are a few parts I have to wipe down, but still much better than cleaning and scrubbing the whole thing. We have a shower head at each end of the shower, and while I thought about purchasing a shower cleaner for each end, instead i trade off positions each week with the same one. It's been successful. Never do I look at one end or the other and think it's dirty.
I find the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner to be such a great help. With both bathrooms now I just have minimal upkeep. It seems like one of those things you think everybody should be using.
