To the Point

My mom is in rehab after having surgery on a fractured knee after she fell. The patio is windy plus she has a hard time with fine motor skills due to her very shaky hands. I wanted to buy us a game we could play that wouldn't blow away so I chose the Game Folio Edition of Scrabble make by Parker Brothers.

A Closer View

I chose the Folio Edition for several reasons.

  • It's smaller than the regular board so I knew it would easily fit in a drawer in her room. It measures about 10 inches long by 6 inches wide when closed. It weighs about a pound.
  • I really like that the pieces snap in so they can't blow away.
  • I really like that since the pieces snap in the Game Folio Edition of Scrabble which means that I can close the Folio before we finish a game and then just open it up when we want to play again. Our pieces have stayed right where we are. Since my mom's attention span (not unlike children's!) is short this feature is wonderful.
  • The Folio easily zips.
  • There are 100 plastic letter tiles that fit into a bag which fits into the Folio.
  • It comes with a score pad and instructions which are housed in a pocket.
  • It comes with four plastic racks to keep the tiles on which when done fit into their storage space.
  • The Scrabble Game Folio Edition is for ages 8 and older. It makes a fantastic game to bring in a car or plane.

What I don't like

The pieces are very small. On the one hand the smallness of them makes the Folio a travel game. On the other hand, young children often have a hard time with small pieces and as I said my mom has a hard time. I end up putting the tiles into their place for her more often than not.

Jo's Viewpoint

I like it!

I bought this game at Target for $12.99.

In response to GeorgeChabot's comment from Mar 1, 2008 at 2:24PM:

Hmm - only you would think of that:) Here's a little trivia "Scrabble was an American television game show that was based on the Scrabble board game. The Reg Grundy production (co-produced in association with Exposure Unlimited) ran from July 2, 1984, to March 23, 1990, and again from January 18 to June 11, 1993, both times on NBC. ..".

Scrabble - is that a word? Nevertheless, it's a great game! ;>

I am a big scrabble fan! It was a great way for the kids to practice spelling until they started winning! LOL Love your Obama shot - did you see mine over at AC? Got some great ones at his rally - put one over here too - geez great minds DO think alike :-)
