Scrabble Classic Edition —

I have been fascinated by word games since I was young and play many different types both online and off. Scrabble is the first board game I ever really got into and have been hooked since day one. I have 4 brothers and a sister and growing up we played at least once a week. When I got married and had children growing up we used this game as a learning tool to strengthen their words skills.

Scrabble

The game is best with four players pitting their word skills against one another. Not only trying to make words from just your tiles but also the tiles already in play. Of course we have all tried to sneak in a few "NON" words from time to time and it is fun to catch someone doing just that...lol I got to where I was pretty good at getting the "Double and Triple" word scores.

We used to play a variation of Scrabble where you could trade letter tiles with each other too. It gives it a whole new kick as after trading you have better letters but you also know what the other person has as well. After all sometimes 7 letters is not enough to work with when you get stuck with "Q, X or Z".

Try playing like we used to play where you have to make 4 letter words only, or 5 letter words! No matter how you decide to play it is a great way to teach children how to spell, increase their logic skills or just invite friends over and have a blast making words all night.

Scrabble has to be one of the first "Social" games they ever made and I would say a vast majority of people have played at one time or another. I got to the point that if there was nobody around to play I went online and played on various sites. Of course they have different names for it online, but it is still the same great game I grew up with.

Want a neat variation you can play by yourself? Try Scrabble Solitaire, but play fair. I like to draw 8 tiles at a time and try to make words. You just have to resist the urge to trade tiles and use only what you draw initially and then after each word you make. See how high of a score you can get and challenge yourself to better that score!

Bottom Line

Whether your socializing with friends and playing at home or online playing others, Scrabble is a great way to keep your brain active and have some fun at the same time. Who knew learning and spelling could be so much fun? So grab your game out of the closet, wipe off the dust and rediscover the great game of Scrabble!
