Scotts Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release All Purpose Plant Food —

Well, you won't find my garden spot in a top magazine. Better Homes and Gardens may have had me in mind when they picked the title because all of their homes and gardens look better than mine. But I have three small children and work four part-time jobs. I'm patting myself on the back for even trying to plant flowers this year.

I choose my plants carefully. They must be acquired from a family member via a shovel or they must cost about a quarter. Two packs of seeds for a quarter is even better. However, if I'm going to the trouble of planting a flower garden, I do want to give it a chance to grow, so I bought Miracle Grow Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release All Purpose Plant Food and also planted one of my latest gardens over the septic tank. (I think Southern women are known for practicality.)

Well, you can look at the pictures. I'm quite pleased--not bad for spending less than $5 on all of the plants. Now if I could just get this fertilizer for that kind of bargain. The look on my daughters' faces has been priceless as they have watched their flowers flourish. One flower bed has lots of canna lillies and black-eyed susans and the other has lots of sunflowers.

If you are planning to garden with children, I have a few words of advice. First, don't. (Just kidding--it can actually be fun for adult and child.) Just be safe in using products such as this and ensure that the children don't eat the plant food. It's also helpful to keep them from eating the dirt with cow manure and the grass--oh heck, just put the playpen up in a shady spot and let the smallest ones observe. My 4-year-old and 6-year-old were literally fighting over who got to shake the Miracle Grow next--that's a nice touch to have the lid with holes so that you can just pop the lid and shake. It gets a bit expensive when the 4-year-old pours half a jar on one plant when you turn your back when she has the kind that doesn't have the shaker holes.

This plant food can feed your plants continuously for up to three months. You do not need to pre-mix with water and only need to use a tablespoon per square foot. I used Miracle Grow on perennials and annuals. It is not formulated to feed indoor plants or outdoor plants in containers. The fertilizer analysis is 10-16-10.

My Viewpoint:

I've been very pleased with the results that Miracle Grow Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release All Purpose Plant Food has had on my flower garden. It is easy to use and lasts for about three months.

We have had very little rain lately. Luckily we got some rain from the recent hurricane. I haven't had to water in a few days!!! :-) Gardens are such an investment of time and money. They sure are pretty though.

We've had a lot of help this spring and summer by rain every week or so. It does help a lot for them to be watered on a regular basis, but flowers around here just aren't going to get a lot of TLC from me unless I have the spare time. I also invested in some good soil because we tend to have hard red clay dirt around here. Planting over the septic tank probably did helped a lot too.

Mine won't ever be a showcase yard, but we are having fun and enjoying the cool colors and all the birds that are attracted to them.

Well, it does make the weeds flourish too. But my kids don't know that dandelions are weeds, so I'm pretty safe on that one for now!

I must confess that I just "lack" (to put it in mild terms) at gardening. Well, maybe not completely. I use another brand of the shake and feed so I'm going to try Miracle Grow next. thanks ~

I won't be rebuilding my poor yard until next year, but every idea I can get is a bonus.

With my gardening skills, I'd use this stuff and it would be the WEEDS that grew tall & green!!
