Scottrade Review Summary

Scottrade is a practical, inexpensive online brokerage company that keeps fees low and thus helps keep money in its investors accounts. Scottrade offers its customers a very low, flat trading fee; a small minimum amount of cash necessary to open an account; and plenty of reports and analysis to let you know how well your investments are performing. “No Frills, No Hassles, No Sales Pitches, No Problems!” is an accurate assessment of reviewer opinion of Scottrade and while Scottrade can sometimes make it a little difficult to access cash, its low fees and no frills approach to brokerage make it a popular Online Broker for those with limited funds.

Have been using ScotTrade for 3 years now and have nothing but great things to say about using the website. Of course the $7 trades are great but also that you have thousands of Mutual Funds to invest in if you so desire. One tip I have is they are suppose to be up to the minute on trades but if you...

Scottrade did a margin call on zero days notice. Requirements were fully met yesterday at the close and today after the close I received a notice to sell or wire money (no checks!). The branch manager confirmed that this was not a mistake. No three day notice - nothing. This was on a six digit account that had been open for several years.  Do not trust these people. Their fine print is vicious and they use it without quarter.

We switched both our IRAs and our post-tax investments to Scottrade several years ago, and have been very happy with them. We switched for the lower per-trade rate AND because I was unhappy with our former broker's buy methods...I had to pay extra for limit orders and brother I'd better use them, otherwise I paid whatever the highest intraday price was, or was given the lowest price on my sell orders. UGH.

Scottrade goes in real time, and does not charge me extra for limit orders if I'm feeling nervous. Awesome!

I also appreciate that they assume I know what I'm doing. I don't get calls from a broker...

I started with Scottrade about a year ago.  I was lured by the $7 flat rate for trade and stayed because the site works just like I want.  It is easy to navigate and they are up front with the fees.  Some online brokerages charge up keep fees and have a sliding scale for trading fees.  Not with Scottrade.  I have found it to be user friendly and fun to do!

If you want a no-nonsense online broker, Scottrade is your best bet.  Trades are only $7 and there are no hidden fees.  This may indeed represent the best value in online brokerage.

The account summary gives a short term growth history and shows the amount availble for trade.  Daily gains and losses are also readily visible on the homepage.  Statements are available online.

Trades are executed promptly with confirmation sent via email.  Free trades are available by referring others to the service.

One complaint I had before was the inability to electronically fund the account.  However,...

Scottrade is a practical, easy to navigate website where trades are only $7.00.  Plus it is backed up by real people in local offices in case you need them.  The website also has a good research capablity.  I use Scottrade for all my trades and find that the execution is timely and accurate.  Ive also been told that in 2009 they will add the sought for dividend reinvestment program which will enhance our investment abilities.  I have visited the local office to open a new account and found that the service was excellent.  The manager and brokers were all courteous and helpful, particularly... read full review »

I have been with Scottrade for 5 years now and have NEVER had a problem with them. The few times that I had to call customer service (in my local area office), they were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The streaming quotes tool is great, works flawlessly. And they pay interest on any cash sitting between investments.

I switched to Scottrade from Citibank/Salomon Brothers about a year ago.  I have been very happy with their service so far.  Also, at $7 per trade, compared to $25 at Citi, it was a no-brainer.  There are no account maintenance fees either.

Their website is easy to navigate, and they have branches all over most cities- so they can always answer questions in person.  Their customer service at the branches has also been excellent.  There are a few improvements I would like to see:

-Offer dividend reinvestment, which is a great way for investors to build their portfolio.

-Allow investment in...

Scottrade is very helpful. You can easily find any stock and from ther can see its trend over the last 5 years verses the last 5 days. Scottrade also has a chart displaying your entire account balances. What is the point of writting this, i doubt anyone is actually reading this. I just need 250 words for some reason that i don't understand. If fact i don't even understand why im writting this review in the first place.

Love to invest with scottrade, love that they have local offices, the only thing i wish they had was an easier add and withdrawl funds. I want instant.  I dont want to have to call there local branch to have them issue a check. but on the other had maybe that is how they keep there trade fees so low. I still love them

Have used Scottrade for a few years now and their service is getting worse and worse. Now, funding your account is a very slow process. When funds do appear in your account you still must wait for days before you can use them. For anyone who likes to trade stocks forget about Scottrade, find another, better user friendly broker.

They are the worst ... They violent their own regulations!
I had the most trouble experience with them. Their rules are very unfair. First there was a problem with my social security number and then I sent the form to them and they called and confirmed that they received it. After a few days, they withhold some of my money because of Tax and as a result I received a margin call and at the time I was traveling and was not able to notice as quick and they sold my stock. Next problem was exactly like what you said. I lost almost $10,000 on my BAC stocks just to sell them in 1 day to give them their...

I've been using Scottrade for a while now and so far had no problems. And a like Money Direct that allow you to make transfers from your checking account to your Scottrade account very easy. The minimun to open an account is $500 no bad. If you decide to open an account they have a 3 free trades offer. On the Get Started page fill your info and when asked how you heard about Scottrade, select "Referred by a friend, relative, etc." Enter the following Referall code: NBNX0491 to get 3 free online trades.
