I not only want to be unique but I also want to be seen by others when I am on the road. Sounds a bit selfish in a way but my reasoning is purely for safety purposes. A majority of the car/truck vs. motorcycle accidents are because they didn't see the motorcycle and to me that is a scary thought. It won't keep me from riding because I love the feeling of being in the open air. So I want to be sure that I stand out so that I am noticed!

Scootworks Auxiliary Light Switch

This switch is made to bolt on your handlebars on either your brake reservoir or clutch perch and is polished on the side that shows. The switch also comes with stainless steel bolts to mount it with. It is rated for 140 watts continuous and will handle a set of driving/passing lights with no problem.

Okay we all know that with me being a Redneck that I have to be different...lol Actually I was different this time out of practicality instead. Yeah it would have looked good sitting on my brake reservoir but that meant running wires down the handlebars through the existing harness all the way to my battery box. Way too much work that didn't need to be done, so I got creative with the placement.

Installing the Light Switch

I didn't need the shiny part facing out, I just wanted the functionality of the switch so I opted to bolt it to the same bracket for my choke on the side of my gas tank. I drilled out the bolt hole and mounted my switch (which put me a more realistic 11" from my battery box which contains my fuse box as well. Mounting my switch took all of 10 minutes, running all my wires took much longer...lol I had 2 choices of how to hook up my wires...either on a circuit that was A) always on. B) only on when the key was turned to the on position. For battery life I chose the power with key on option.

This switch is water proof as it has no exposed contacts (they are encased in a plastic housing and the button has a rubber boot on it) It is a push button (single pole) so one push turns them on and another turns them off. The lights I used are LED (Light Emitting Diodes) and pull 0.2 amps each for a total of 1.2 amps (6 lights) so they are not power mongers but are very bright none the less.

Kansas like many states allow ground effects as long as the bulbs themselves are not visible. Mine are mounted on the bottom frame (2 on each side front and back) and also on the bottom of each of my foot boards. They are secured with double sided tape and a zip tie on each.

I would review the light pods but I have no idea who makes them as I got them on Ebay. They each contain 5 LED's with the 2 outer lights at a 60 degree angle, the next 2 at a 45 degree angle and the center one pointed straight or 90 degrees. They are encased in a plastic housing that is 2 3/4" long x 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick. The housing is chromed but you can't see them so it doesn't matter...lol Wow 6 light pods with 5 bulbs each....30 lights on my Lil' Blue!

Bottom Line

Since the switch is going to be exposed to the weather it needed to be weather proof and it fits that bill very well. The bracket is well made and would have looked great on the handlebars but I chose to go a different route. I have tested the switch and it works great, the lights are bright and it adds another "Personal Touch" to Lil' Blue. Even more important the switch allowed me to add another element of safety to not only myself but my precious Lil' Blue as well.

Scootworks has a lot of stuff for my bike (as well as other makes) and I am sure I will be visiting them again for other little enhancement projects for my Lil' Blue!

Of course you explained it well...I just don't always follow the more techie aspects. Same thing happens when my hubby explains the workings of his computers. LOL

Gotta agree with Anna on this one. I only understood about half of it, but it sounds like it all turned out well. :)

I didn't understand all of it but it was a great read. You're really smart about equipment and stuff.
