Used by all the family

We have had our Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike for some time now and it has been through the family and other close friends. I bought it for exercising in front of the television for myself but soon found out the the rest of my family wanted to use it as much as I did. It is so easy to handle because the seat can be adjusted in seconds, it has a readout for measuring your minutes or your miles, has an easy adjustment knob on the wheel for easy or harder peddling, and even has a built in air blowing on you from the movement of the wheel. It also will tilt up on two small wheel like a wheel barrow for easy movement from room to room or down the street for a friend to use. It very fast became a loaner bike for members of my family and friends who had knee replacement or other rehab needs. My mom needed it and kept it for months for her knee replacement rehab. My aunt used it for the same reason. I've had two neighbors who have borrowed it, one had kinee rehab and another after heart attacks and heart surgeries. He was going to a gym to use one when I told him I had my Schwinn. He was thrilled to be able to stay in his own home to get to exercise. I love talking about and sharing my machine with others.

Always on this bike!

I've used many stationary bikes, but this by far my favorite. It's very smooth and sturdy, and you can adjust things on the bike to fit your needs which is amazing. The fact that it pedals so smoothly makes it so there's less stress being exerted on the body. It's a lot easier to get into a cardio session with this! Comfort The seat is pretty cushiony and is good for longer cardio sessions.

The 340 is good for those not tall. The controls = not easy.

The bike is sturdy and pedals well. However, at nearly 6' with long legs, I find myself cramped. I have the Schwinn 340. The keys that operate it take a long term to learn. I haven't mastered them yet. Comfort My bike is a bit short, even with the padded seat all the way back. I have ridden others at physical therapy clinics that were more comfortable and allowed more room for my legs. At times I have to spread them apart slightly. Ease of Use I haven't mastered the many keys. I just get on and ride, relying on the timer. Setting it for optimal performance is not my forte. However, if two or more are going to use, setting up the proper distance may not be easy. Durability Seems like it can last forever. Very solid construction. No loose parts even after lots of us. Design Could have been made a little longer. The 340 is a nice unit but I have ridden bikes with better, more suitable designs for a long lanky guy. Distance between seat and steering column for this 6' person is not enough.

Great work out

I use my Schwinn Airdyne every other day as I go to Curves on the other days. I enjoy the fact that while you peddle air blows from the wheel like a fan keeping you cool. There is a place to put a book or magazine I may be reading. You can just use your arms to pump the handles or even just use your legs to peddle without needing to hold on to the handlebars, if you don't want to do both at the same time. Between Curves, walking, using my exercise bike and eating 5 small meals a day I have manages to lose a lot of weight.(under100# but over 60#). It was not easy but I truly believe that if I did not have the bike to augment what else I was doing I would never have lost so much. I very highly recommend a exercise bicysle of any type. One other thing people do not know is you can purchase a device from a quality bike shop that will allow you to rest your wheels on it and turn your road bike into a stationary bike.

It provides the right workout when you need it!

The Airdyne® Exercise Bike is a simply smart no frills way to get the airobic workout you need. Wind resistance is exponential, so the harder you pedal, the higher the resistance becomes so your level of airobic exercise is increased. This bike naturally provides the right workout for both a novice exerciser or an elite athlete.  You will use this!  I have an exercise area set up my garage complete with TV so I can exercise while watching my favorite shows or the BIG game.

Easy to Assemble & Same Great Bike

Airdyne bought to replace our old model with over 15 years of camps that have taken place. I read the previous comments and expressed concern about online shopping because of other problems he had with the whole. I was happy when I saw the instructions were simple and I could ride a bicycle without assistance in less than the 2 others had warned it would take hours. Apparently most of the time spent, the right size keys and sockets, and with two English and metric sizes. As has been said, there was little change in the Airdyne. However, they have changed the computer screen a little and now I want that I keep my old, and there were pre-set programs for the hills, double, etc. The new devices not possible, so you're on your own to pedal at their own pace, without having to promote the computer. Of course, the new machine is equipped with options such as a heart rate monitor, but so far we have not chosen to buy.I still think this is a good buy for us and exercise equipment that you need.

great workout machine

4

I got this machine used on ebay. It's essentially the same bike, just a slightly older model. Since it was already set up, I can't really comment on how difficult it is to make it. The bike however is a really good excercise machine. It not only works the legs, but it works the upper body and arms as well. That is what distinguishes it from a regular pedal stationary bike where you only work the legs. In this bike, you are doing a cardiovascular work out which is the best type. In addition, there are no modes to choose from. The more you pedal, the greater the resistance so you can essentially just get on and do it without any complicated setup. The cons I would say are that the seat can get uncomfortable for extended periods of time, and that the wheels generated incredible amount of noise. You would think that the large fan would cool you but it really doesnt do a lot of it. The noise can be irritating if you are watching TV or listening to the iPOD

20 years and counting

I've had my schwinn airdyne for 20 years- yep, 20 years! I got it in 1990 and still use it to this day. I ride it about 9 miles everyday, faithfully, so it's gotten thousands and thousands of miles logged on it. The only days I miss are if I'm out of town or in the hosptial. And I LOVE it! It's a rgeat workout and helped me lose weight. It keeps me in great shape and helps with my overall health. I have it serviced every two years or so, a general tune-up at the local bike shop, and then it rides smoothe again, since parts do wear out and it does start riding kind of rough. I have a reading stand on it and can easily enjoy reading a book, even as I ride my 9 miles in 30". I have to say I've seen friends by exercise bikes that wear out after not too much use, but there's no way you could question the amount of use I've gotten out of this bike, given how much riding it's had. I have the cushioned seat on it, which makes it quite comfortable. Schwinn makes a great product in this bike!

proven effective

I had one of these 7 years ago and it was very good.  When I did use it, which was not enough, I found it to be the best because it was comfortable and had good resistance.  I like the wind to cool you off.  They are very expensive and heavy.  But still great if you have the money and the room.  For that reason I only give it a 3 star.  But would recommend it.
