To the Point

I was putting my plants on our kitchen table so it will be easy for our house sitter to water them. I don’t have a green thumb but love plants. I have about 15 and would have more if I had more room. I looked down at many of them and realized that they could use a new coating of potting soil. I have been using Shultz Potting Soil Plus for years. I also use this soil when I plant annuals- plants that have to be replaced each year and perennials - plants that come up year after year.

A Closer Look

What prompted me to pick this particular potting soil out of many others was the fact it has time-released plant food. Given I need all the help I can get I thought this was a wise choice and it has been.

I also use fertilizer sticks in my indoor plants because I tend to water them more than once a week and according to the Schultz bag, "supplemental feedings are necessary if plants are watered more than one time a week."

This is not ordinary dirt. A cubic foot costs at the least $16.00. In my local store I paid $21.00. I don't fill a whole garden with this special soil. I’ll give you an example of what I've done. I had two window boxes on my house until last year. I filled the containers inside the boxes with cheaper soil – you can get three times as much for that money – then plant my petunias and then add a layer about 1-inch thick of the Schultz Potting Soil Plus.

I really like the zipper seal reclosable bag. The package is designed to stand and it does. This avoids bags falling over and spilling. I also like the thickness of the bag. I’ve had other bags that are so thin the smallest item would make a whole in the bag making a mess!

It has many ingredients including peat moss, the mineral, vermiculite, lime and plant food. It is designed to allow water to drain through it so it can reach the roots.
