The Schick Intuition is a women's razor with a specially formulated lubricant bar molded around the blades. The starter kit comes with a thick plastic base (usually in a pastel color like peach, baby blue, or pink) and two razor refills, which come in their own individual plastic cases so you can take a refill in your bag without worrying about it rubbing off on your personal items. Refills usually come in packages of three or four. The lubricant bar is meant to replace shave gel, making it quicker and simpler to shave in the shower.
Some varieties of the lubricant bar are meant to be more moisturizing, meaning you might be able to go without putting on lotion after showering; other varieties are specially formulated for sensitive skin. I still put lotion on after using the Intuition on my legs, but I would say the skin on my legs is definitely softer than when I use a normal razor with soap or shave gel.
The Intuition is a great idea that provides an excellent shave - especially for the bikini area. I know that's not what the product was marketed for, but I hated shaving my bikini area so much I decided to give it a whirl anyway. I get remarkably fewer ingrown hairs when using the Intuition, and a much closer shave with less irritation and bumps later. This allows me to shave that oh-so-sensitive area on a more regular basis without raising awful-looking red bumps on my sensitive skin. That area looks and feels so much better afterwards than when I use a normal razor and shave gel, and doesn't take ten minutes to work like a depilatory product can.
Of course, there are limits to how well this product works if you intend to use it on this area; if you have never groomed the bikini area before, you should use a razor meant for that process, not the Intuition. But if you are looking to keep that area clean-shaven on a regular basis, I would say you will have better results with the Intuition than with a traditional razor.
The downside? Using the Intuition to shave the bikini area wears down the lubricant bar much more quickly than shaving the legs or armpits, and the refills aren't cheap, either. If you wait for a sale, the refills are anywhere between 5-10 dollars for 3 refills. The starter kits are usually around 8-10 dollars. I usually wait for a sale or clearance to find refills, and coupons come out pretty frequently as well, so that's good; but it's still a product I would consider a luxury item. Schick does occasionally give out samples of the Intuition as well; I know this because I have received two in the past. However, they have not done this recently, and who knows if they will do it again anytime soon.
Another issue is how the razor shaves when the lubricant wears down. I would say I can make a bar last about a month before I start thinking that I to replace it. In the past I've used the Intuition for shaving my legs and underarms, and it's quick and easy for the most part, until the lubricant bar is worn down. Then you find yourself pressing the razor harder, trying to get the really smooth, easy shave you've gotten out of the product before, and before you realize it you've nicked your knee or your ankle. Or you find yourself using shave gel, and then that just defeats the whole purpose. And using the Intuition to shave the bikini area with a worn-down lubricant bar is definitely not a good idea!
I find myself mostly using the Intuition to shave the bikini area for now. The refills just cost too darn much to waste them on my legs and underarms. Bottom line is: I love the results, I just don't so much love the effect it has on my wallet!
