As with any medication, please consult your healthcare provider before using Nasonex.

Nasonex Nasal Spray has made a big difference in my children's allergy symptoms. They are now ages 6 and 4. This is a once a day nasal spray in a bottle that contains 120 metered sprays. If prescribed one squirt in each nostril once a day, that translates into a 2 month supply.

A great benefit of this nasal spray is that children as young as 2 years can use it. My kids have allergy symptoms all year, just as I do. We would probably be allergic to a Chia Pet if we had one.

This is not a quick fix product. It can take up to two weeks to get the full benefit of Nasonex. That's the nature of corticosteroids. When used on a regular basis, prescription Nasonex does not cause a rebound effect like some of the over-the-counter nasal sprays. A rebound effect happens when a product causes the opposite effect after a certain number of days of use.

My kids haven't experienced problems with side effects from this medication, but side effects may include "headache, viral infection, sore throat, nosebleeds, and coughing." Nasonex does not have an odor like some other nasal sprays that I have been prescribed.

Some newer inhalers have a counter that tells you how many sprays are left in the bottle. Nasonex does not, and sometimes it is difficult to tell whether or not it is spraying medication...until the person receiving the medicine can no longer breathe through her nose. If that happens at our house, it takes several days to open up the nasal passages again.

Now I write the date I start using the spray directly on the bottle label so that I can keep track of when I need to replace the bottle. Since I have two children on the same medication, I also write each child's first initial on the bottle. When starting a new bottle, you will need to "prime" it by spraying a couple of times until the medicine begins to spray. The website offers a program in which you may sign up to receive emails when it is time to refill your prescription of Nasonex.

The downside is the price. Like many drugs in this class, its cost may be a bit high for those without a prescription drug plan. The Nasonex website offers a program in which you can save $10/refill.

Overall, this is a good product that has helped a lot of people who suffer from allergies to be able to enjoy life more.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'm hoping the tip about the date will help someone--it's so hard to tell when it's empty. I'm glad you've been able to get by with the nasal rinses and the occasional decongestant. I've been on allergy shots for about 16--my allergies actually got worse last year. Ugh!

I used to use Nasonex, and I wish I'd had that tip about the start date on the bottle. :) Luckily, I don't have to use it any more...I've gotten relief with a morning nasal saline rinse and occasional decongestant pills. Great review.

Nope--and my kids want one so badly. They have to settle for a pet rock right now. Glad you liked the tip about the date!

What??? No Chia pet? Great tips for writing the start date on the bottle.
