Scherer Labs Chiggerex Plus 1.75oz. —

I got a few chigger bites while on vacation in Indiana and the first stuff I bought was Equate anti itch cream. It worked well but it was missing something, perhaps just in my mind but regardless I looked for another solution to my itching. I am a magnet for chiggers and mosquitoes but they always seem to find me before I remember to use a repellent.

Chiggerex Plus

This cream is very easy to spread but yet stays where you put it and for chigger and mosquito bites that is a must. Another great addition to this cream is the great scent and tingle it gives after you apply it on your bites. The soothing comes from none other than 5% Benzocaine and as any medication ending in 'caine (novacaine, cocaine....lol just kidding) it has a numbing effect and eases that itch real fast. it is also very creamy and feels good on the skin, this comes from Aloe Vera and Chamomile.

The scent is a minty one that is also soothing and not overpowering to the nose. I believe it may be in my head but between the tingle and scent I felt it worked very well for my numerous chigger bites all over my legs, arms and waist.

Bottom Line

I really felt this was one of the best chigger medications I have ever bought and it will be my choice in any future mosquito and chigger battles when they happen. The light minty scent and tingle are just the ticket for fighting those chigger and mosquito bites that we all encounter at one time or another.

I tried Chiggerex Plus a couple of years ago for one chigger bit, and since then for ant bites and mosquito bits. It works better then hydrocortisone and everything else I have tried, even salt poultices ( it is second best or ant and mosquito bits). My only question is where can I get some more. I have looked in Walgreen, Wal-Mart, REI, and Target. Where else can I look?

I lived in Maryland for 26 years and never heard of them, not until I moved to the Midwest.....;)

Years ago we got chiggers while traveling south. No one up here knew what we had!

Yep that would have drove me nuts...It sounds like they may have lived on bedding, furniture or clothing on ya. When ever I get a few bites I make sure I treat everything I touched to kill em off. Clothing and bedding is easy I just wash them in hot soapy water and vacuum the furniture then throw away the bag or empty the container in the case of bagless vacuums...;)

I have this stuff and have been considering reviewing it's amazing-ness! It is really awesome, powerful stuff. After leaving the desert and entering the woods and humid Georgia/Tennessee country, I have been devoured alive by these nasty skeeters. Chiggerex is the only thing that has worked. A few weeks ago, it was so bad that I just carried this in my purse (as I'm about to start to do again) and it works immediately!

Thanks for letting everyone know how great this stuff is!

I've heard that it's a misconception--I'm just glad I wasn't itching any more after a month of scratching!

The misconception of clear fingernail polish is that it cuts off the oxygen to the chigger but the chigger is usually gone by the time you begin too itch. It is the chiggers saliva that makes you itch, however the chemicals in fingernail polish will help itching in some because it stings you the stinging may actually overpower the itch...;)

5 years ago I was bitten so bad that many of them got infected and I had to see a Dr. Back then there were not many ointments that worked to stop the itch, thank goodness for science....;)

Katrena wrote on Sep 1, 2008 at 8:44PM

I hadn't heard of this one. I didn't realize I had chiggers until I had itched and itched for about a month a couple of summers ago. I used clear fingernail polish and they stopped itching within 15 minutes. Some internet sources say the clear fingernail polish is not something that works, but it sure did for me. Bet this would have felt good for the places where I'd about clawed myself to death...

Just in time, as something has been biting me here! Sometimes the scent of a product has a lot to do with its soothing effect!

Boy those chiggers can sure make you miserable. Good thing you found this stuff. Thanks! :>
