Kids are creatures of habit. You spend their all-important first years getting them (and you, slovenly, eat-cereal-for-dinner you) into a healthy routine. After you get the hang of the whole parenting thing, evenings go like clockwork from the first slap of the plastic dinner tray to the gurgle of bath suds down the drain and the assembly line of jammies, stories, lullaby and lights out.

Deviate from this schedule at your peril.

But everybody needs to rock their world sometime, even Scaredy Squirrel, who never ventures from his nut tree. Talk about obsessive-compulsive--Watt...

Scaredy Squirrel is really hot on safety--to the point where he is unable to leave his home! It's fun to see what happens when Scaredy's precautions fail to save him from EVERYTHING!  This is an excellent book for promoting caution leavened with reason and does provide some valuable safety tips while encouraging children to try new experiences. 

The illustrations are very colorful and appealling to older preschoolers and elementary children.  They enjoy discussing the actions Scaredy could have taken and activities he could have done instead of what he does.  For fearful children this book...

Scaredy Squirrel is an amazing new book.  I am a teacher and was delighted to find this in our school library.  The illustrations are big, bold, and beautiful.  Scaredy Squirrel is adorable, vulnerable, charming, and my new favorite book character.  My third graders LOVE this book and so do I.  I have not been this excited about a book (children's book or otherwise) in some time.  I am buying several copies of these for gifts--mostly for kids--but adults will be amused by the humor of this fabulous author, Melanie Watt.  I predict this to be a big hit and I think that Scaredy Squirrel will... read full review »
