I purchased some Satin Soft Supreme Zippered Pillow Encasings when I purchased some mattress encasings at my allergist's suggestion. They claim to provide an allergen-proof barrier between the person and the pillow, which is always a good thing if you have an allergy to dust mites. People with dust mite allergies do not have an allergy season--we keep on sneezing and snuffling the WHOLE year long.

Product Features:

  • tightly-woven fabric
  • 100% polyester
  • fabric breathes freely
  • cool, comfortable, noiseless (doesn't "crinkle" like some encasings)
  • lifetime warranty

How to Use:

  • before ordering, measure your pillows to ensure you are purchasing the correct size because they have quite a few sizes, including:
    • crib/travel
    • standard
    • queen
    • king
    • euro square
    • body
  • remove regular pillowcase
  • slip encasing around pillow and zip
  • place regular pillowcase over the encasing

Maintenance:

  • remove from pillow and zip closed (actually I've washed these quite a few times without zipping them and haven't had any problems)
  • wash in HOT water and tumble dry at lowest setting every 10-14 days (they say that HOT water is required to kill dust mites unless you buy a special detergent)
  • do not bleach or iron or dry clean (I have 3 children and am on a budget...I would not even consider ironing my linens or taking them to the dry cleaner!)

My Experience:

  • My peak flow readings have actually improved over the years, despite a continuing battle with severe dust mite allergies
  • Environmental control of dust mites includes many other things at my home, like damp dusting furniture and using hepa filters
  • I've had these encasings for years and have had no problems with them
  • I ordered these through National Allergy and cannot find this exact model anymore, but I found something comparable ranging from $5.99 to $17.99--a bit expensive in my checkbook! If you have oxygen at home, I might suggest that you have it handy when ordering if you tend to be a savvy saver like me.

My Viewpoint:

Satin Soft Supreme Zippered Pillow Encasings can help control dust mites and are a good compliment to the Satin Soft Supreme Mattress Encasings, but it is difficult to say exactly what they are worth since we are using quite a few techniques to control dust mites.

I also like the ones that aren't noisy. I can see my kids going for the bouncy bed too. Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

I have hypoallergenic pillow encasings on all the pillows in all of my bedrooms. I love sleeping on feather pillows but due to my allergies I couldn't. Well, with the pillow encasings I can. I like the cloth ones that are washable. My small guest room/study has a twin bed and that one has the plastic case--too noisy but it doesn't seem to bother any of the children that want to sleep on the antique bouncy bed.

Good night, sleep tight, glad the dust mites will not bite :+) ~Gigi

That's great that the covers have helped your mom. I made so many changes at once that it was hard for me to tell exactly what helped the most.

My mom uses pillow and mattress covers on her bed. She has airborne allergies. I'm not sure if she uses the Satin Soft brand. Anyways, the covers she uses have really helped her allergies when it comes to dust mites. My moms allergies are so bad she can't even dust or vaccum. If she does dust/vaccum, she gets really sick. I totally understand about allergies. Great Review! ;-)
