The Satin Soft Supreme Zippered Mattress Encasing is one of many items I have bought in my quest to control dust mites. With a severe allergy to dust, I need all the help I can get. Of course, we cannot see our dust mites, so it is hard to tell exactly how effective this product is.

Product features:

  • provides an allergen-proof barrier
  • tightly woven
  • 100% polyester
  • cool and comfortable
  • noiseless (this isn't like a plastic mattress pad)
  • lifetime warranty (I've had these for years and haven't had any problems)

How to place on mattress:

  • make sure you order the correct size by measuring your mattress before ordering because they have various sizes, including:
    • crib
    • twin
    • long twin
    • full
    • queen
    • king
    • cal. king
  • remove fitted sheet and mattress pad (if applicable)
  • insert mattress into casing (I found it easier to start from the head of the bed and work down--this is much easier with two people but one supermom can do it alone)
  • close zipper
  • replace linens

Maintenance:

  • vacuum entire surface every 10-14 days (well, to be honest, I don't often vacuum my beds like I'm supposed to)
  • remove casing, zip empty casing closed and wash once or twice a year using hot water and tumble dry at lowest setting (I actually wash mine more often than this and they have held up well)
  • do not bleach or iron or dry clean (trust me, that thought never occurred to me)

Has it helped?

  • My peak flow readings have increased over the years despite continued allergies to dust mites (I also installed several hepa filters, removed much of the carpet in the house, and try to damp dust the furniture once in a blue moon, so I'm not sure to what extent these help, but the allergist says that mattresses harbor the most dust mites and highly recommended encasings)

Where I got these

  • I ordered these from National Allergy years ago. I no longer see this exact brand, but I found some comparable adult-sized mattress encasings on their site in the range of $46-86, depending on the size. I also purchased pillow encasings from the came company.

My Viewpoint:

If you have dust mite allergies, I do recommend trying to control dust within the house as much as possible. Satin Soft Supreme Zippered Mattress Encasings seem a quite high in price to me, but they do have a lifetime warranty and appear to be a quality product.

I'll have to remember that the next time I get around to dusting!

Great review. I have severe allergies to dust but can't stand to dust strange. I don't have dust bunnies, I have dust honeys. See, if God created man from the dust of the earth I figure I might have enough to make twins ;+) ~Gigi
