Sanyo - DS31590 Television —

When I first bought this television back in 1999 I did so because it was on sale, had a large screen (for the time) and my Dad owned one. I got it as a display model so not only did I get the sale price, but another $35 knocked off because it had no box.

I am not writing this review so everyone will run out and buy this television, but to inform people of the quality that Sanyo has put into this product. This thing is a BEAR to handle by yourself at 108lbs it is not a lot of fun even with 2 people for that matter. When I bought this it was to the largest screen that you could get in a tube tv. Being the owner of a 31" set meant all your friends were over to watch football on Sunday!

    The Facts

At 31 inches you can see all the detail you want and in very rich colors as well. Being cable ready with RCA jacks to hook up a surround system you can hear everything very well. At 108 lbs the kids won't be knocking it off the tv stand either. Now I know that Ford Motor Company has coined the phrase "Built Ford Tough" I never thought I would say this about a television set. Back in 2003 we had a bad thunderstorm and as luck would have it our house took a direct hit that day. I lost a desktop PC, a microwave a 3 telephones to mother natures fury. I then turned on the Sanyo and found I had no picture. Home owners insurance is nice, as they paid for everything that was toasted that day.

A few days later my buddy came over and wanted to watch the game, well I told him what happened and he suggested we hook it up from the cable box to the tv with the rca jacks. I looked at him like he was nuts, but proceeded to hook it up his way. Low and behold after making the connections, we had a picture and sound! Seems like mother nature only burned out the cable jack on the tv. The picture was still just as sharp and clear as it ever was.

So here I sit watching an 8 year old tv with burn marks on the back and I Love it! The picture 8 years and 1 lightning strike later is still as sharp and clear as the day I bought it. Like many others today I have been drooling over the 60" + Plasma and LCD sets on the market. It is so tempting to go out and get one of these high tech, flat screen, hang on the wall ulta light impress all your friends televisions. I will hang on to this one until it finally ceases to function. When I do venture out into the jungle of high tech plasma big screens, I can tell you one thing for sure. If it says Sanyo on it, I may just bring it home with me.

I have owned many television sets since I moved away from my parents home. I have owned RCA, Magnavox, Philips and this Sanyo. Out of all of them I have been more impressed with the Sanyo than all the others put together. At around the same price as the other brands I feel the quality of the Sanyo has out performed all the rest. When anything can survive a lightning strike and still perform I put that into the outstanding category.
