Each year during the Christmas holiday, I see several stores overloaded with the Santa Fe Quesadilla Maker. I've always wanted to buy one but figured that it would end up getting used twice before gathering dust on a basement shelf, never to be seen again. I finally received one of these as a gift and I can happily say that it has been used several times.
I LOVE quesadillas but don't eat them at restaurants very often because they are usually high in calories and fat. So I was thrilled that I could finally make my own healthy quesadillas right in my own home! Also, I couldn't believe it when my very picky kids said that they love the quesadillas made with the Santa Fe Quesadilla Maker too. Cha-ching!
The Santa Fe Quesadilla Maker is easy to use. I basically plug in the cord, wait for the green "ready" button to light up, make my tortilla, and close the lid. The cooked tortilla is usually ready in 4-5 minutes. The edges come out light brown and crispy and the insides are cheesy and delicious no matter what ingredients I put inside.
Speaking of ingredients, the possibilities are endless. Leftover chicken or beef? Put it in there! Chopped veggies? Yep, put them in there too! Peanut butter and jelly? Yes, we've tried that too. We plan to make quesadilla pies sometime using canned pie filling. I think that the kids will love it!
Clean up is a breeze as long as I don't overload the tortilla with too much cheese or salsa. When that happens, it oozes out of the sides of the tortilla and into the built-in drip reservoir. I then have to wait until the appliance has cooled before cleaning out the mess. Not a big deal though, especially because the Santa Fe Quesadilla Maker has non-stick cooking plates that are easily cleaned with a few swipes of a wet soapy paper towel. The quesadilla maker also comes with a plastic drip tray that is placed underneath the front, just in case a really big spill occurs (our drip tray has never been needed).
The only things that keep me from giving the Santa Fe Quesadilla Maker five stars are that it's a bit bulky to store and is a one-use appliance, meaning that I can't make something other than quesadillas with it. Regardless, I still recommend this to anyone who loves quesadillas. And don't wait until Christmas to buy one, treat yourself now so that you can enjoy homemade quesadillas year-round.
