Sanibel Luminary Night Review

Looking for a special December getaway?
Consider beautiful Sanibel Island, Florida, which dresses up in hundreds of luminarias for its annual Luminary Night, the first weekend in December.  

The Gem of SW Florida
Sanibel Island lies in the Gulf of Mexico, just 45 minutes from RSW airport in Fort Myers.   Known for its abundant wildlife and North America's best seashells, this popular family island is also a romantic getaway, and fun for groups.   Year-round sunshine and mostly moderate temps make it a winner.  Activities include all watersports, dining (Key Lime Pie!), boating, tennis, golf, birding, shopping, photography, paddling, fishing and napping.

This is a beautiful night on Sanibel, and local businesses go all out in December even before the day that Periwinkle Way is lined with twinkling candles inside sand-filled bags.   You can drive yourself about - enjoying the Christmas lights on Periwinkle Way (and all the special events, live entertainment and goodies in the shops) - or you can take a trolley, which is even more fun.  

December Weather
December weather can be iffy - cold by Florida standards, with daytime highs anywhere from 50 to 75.   Pack your swimsuit but bring layers and be open-minded on suntanning.  

Great Rates
Early December is the slowest time of the year on the islands, so you'll get a great deal on a hotel room or condo.  Airfare will also be cheap into RSW, between the holidays.   Look for deals!  We also have Southwest Airlines and Jetblue flying into our area now, as well as other low-cost carriers and major airlines.

I promise!   Nowhere else is Sanibel, where bald eagles soar overhead, otters frolic at the docks, manatees swim lazily about, dolphins are spotted everyday, people are friendly, shelling is phenomenal, the food is great, and the dress code is relaxed.   What more could you want?
