Bottom-Line: If you need a reliable, fast, secure, and commodious SD Card, you can't go wrong with the 512MB SD Media Card from SanDisk.

I love my digital camera, a Kodak EasyShare 7530.  I received the camera for Christmas a few years ago, and already I have taken more pictures with it, then I did in the 10 years I owned my Canon SLR 35mm.  The camera ships with 32MB of memory onboard, but also includes a slot into which one can slip a Secure Digital (SD) Media Card or any demolition.  The first SD Card I bought was only 128 Mega-Bytes (MB), and though I never cam close to maxing it out, I felt a large SD Card was needed. After all one never knows when an extended road trip might be in order; I wouldn't want to run out of memory space.

So, when I spied a SanDisk 512MB SD Card on sale on Amazon.com, I jumped at the chance and snapped it up.

What is an SD Card Anyway?

A Secure Digital Media Card is a secure non-volatile, (the data stays in memory when power is removed) postage stamp-sized flash memory card with denominations ranging from 32MB - 1.0GB.  Each SD Card weighs in at approximately two grams. SD Media Cards can be used in an ever increasing variety of digital and computer-related products, including; PDA's, digital music players, cellular phones, digital cameras, digital video camcorders, photo printers, smart phones, Notebook computers, car navigation systems, as well as electronic books.

The small size and (user selectable) mechanical security of the SD Card make it idea for storage on the go.  The diminutive size of the SD Card also helps protect it from breakage and extreme heat or cold.

My Viewpoint

I bought this particular SanDisk 512MB SD Card exclusively for my 5 Megapixel digital camera.  Of course the number of pictures I can take will vary depending of the quality of the photo and the complexity of the scene being I am photographing.  It is easy to calculate how many pictures a particular SD Card will hold: divide the capacity of the card by the average file size of your images at a given resolution. For example, if you have a 512MB SD Card, and use a digital camera that store the image with an average file size of 1.3MB.  512 divided by 1.3 gives you approximately 390 pictures. As you decrease the resolution on the camera, the number of images will increase, and conversely decrease if you shoot in a higher resolution mode.  At the highest resolution on my Kodak EasyShare 7530 I can shoot approximately 375 pictures before the card fills up.

All-n-all I am very please with the performance of this handy little memory card.  So far I have not even come close to the SanDisk 512MB SD Card maximum storage capacity, and I doubt I ever will, but it is comforting to know that I have the capacity of need be.  If you need a reliable, fast, secure, and commodious SD Card, you can't go wrong with the 512MB SD Media Card from SanDisk.
