When I bought my laptop it had a slot for a memory stick but would not accept an SD card, in fact none of the laptops had them when I bought mine. So to solve this little problem I bought the Sandisk 12 in 1 USB Card Reader for $24 at Walmart. I am not a computer expert but I will try to explain how it works without using big fancy words...lol (Redneck speak)

How it Works

The 12 in 1 Sandisk actually only has 4 slots in the front of it, but will accept different cards in those 4 slots. Here is a list of the cards it will accept in it. The 12 in 1 Card Reader also comes with a stand so you can set it on your desk and not just laying around. I included pictures so you can see it better than the one that is at the top of this review.

1. CompactFlash®
2. CompactFlash® II
3. SD™
4. SDHC™
5. miniSD™
6. miniSDHC™
7. MultiMediaCard™
8. MMCplus™
9. MMCmobile™
10. RS-MMC™
11. RS-MMC Dual Voltage™
12. Memory Stick™
13. Memory Stick Duo™
14. Memory Stick PRO™
15. Memory Stick PRO Duo™
16. SmartMedia™
17. xD
18. xD Type M
19. xD Type H

As you see it really takes 19 different cards, but as some are just a different version of the same card the 12 in one part refers to the different formats it will accept. There are eject buttons on all 4 slots to help in ejecting the cards after use. There is also a button on top they say initiates the transfer sequence, I have never had to use it for the cards I have so I don't know exactly how that works.

Being USB 2.0 it is also backwards compatible and will work in any USB port. The Sandisk will also work on PC's as well as Mac's so that is a plus for any computer user. The Sandisk is slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes and about 1/2" thick. It comes with a USB cord to attach it to your computer and the cord is about 8" long. It works flawlessly and fits right into a pouch in my laptop case.

Bottom Line

Don't fret if your laptop or even your computer will not accept those little memory cards that you use in your digital camera. Get a Sandisk 12 in 1 Card reader and you too can use all the memory cards out there for cameras, video games, printers and computers. As long as you have a USB port (and all computers now have them) this product will expand your uses even more. Whether you use a memory stick, a SD Card, XD Card or the many others I listed above you can now use all of them with this one easy to use card reader. At $24 it is a bargain that will fit any budget.
