Old San Juan, as shown in the photo is a great place to visit. But San Juan itself has only enough to offer for a day trip. Puerto Rico in general is great for the novice traveler who has never been outside of their home town. Some of the great natural sites and activities are found in the "local" towns and areas of Puerto Rico, this prevents a problem for most travelers who are "scared" into remaining in the San Juan area. My suggestion for the experienced traveler heading here is to rent a car, be concious and safe but don't be scared away from exploring the island. The island is VERY small in comparison and you can actually drive the entire island in one day. Go up to the mountains, see the waterfalls and the beaches in the south. EXPLORE!!!
