For the most part the Samsung Instinct is a good phone. I have had a few programing issues in the past but if you have insurance (which I recommend everyone to get) Sprint will swap it for another phone. Nice clear screen, takes nice pictures. I think that it also has good sound quality for the mp3 player as well. This phone is fairly easy to use. I like the shortcuts on the main screen which you can set up to what your specific needs. The speed dials works really well also.
Here are the down sides. If you are hard on phones, my suggestion is to invest in a really good case or hard plastic cover. This is a full touch screen and it can break. Texting can be a little tricky if you are not use to a touch screen. I have a tendency of fat fingering the wrong letter often even after I have calibrated the screen.
One of the main programming issues that I have ran across was the voice mail not registering on my phone or sometime the phone would freeze up. The touch screen is really touchy even if you change the sensitivity on it. I would be talking to someone and my cheek would touch the phone and I would end up hitting the mute button.
Overall, I thought it was a good phone.
