Samsung - Vibration Reduction Technology Washer Review

I highly recommend this machine for families that include an individual with sensory issues from brain injury, autism, or other causes.

Due to multiple head trauma, my adult daughter has acute sensory sensitivity to just about every sensory trigger that exists. My old top-load washer was a nightmare for her, as it rattled and banged and shook during the spin cycle - and from another room with the TV on, she could even hear it filling. She also has constant dizziness, and reaching down into the washer (or across the machine to the controls) made it hard for her to do her own laundry. Going to a public laundry was not an option because I couldn't keep her clothing fragrance-free there.

Before purchasing a new washer, I researched machines thoroughly and decided on Samsung or one other brand. I quickly elminated the other brand because of fragrance imbeded into the washer seal, I think. I couldn't afford to get the top-of-the-line Samsung, but got the WF218ANB with VRT. When it was installed, we put it on 1" rubber pads for extra help, since our old wood flooring carries every possible vibration.

We've had our Samsung for a year now, and we still LOVE it! My daughter is no longer assaulted by sounds and vibrations from the laundry, as it continues to be wonderfully quiet and stable. Even the color (Breakwater Blue) is sensory-friendly for her, as very bright colors are hard for her tolerate. The "finished" signal is a delightful alternative to the annoying buzzer our old machine had. She is able to do her own laundry more independently, with controls and clothing insertion/extraction being straight in front of her.

If there is a con, it is the same that exists with probably every front-load washer, of a smell developing if the door is closed after a load is finished. I eliminate that by using a rolled sock or washcloth to prop the door open for any remaining moisture to evaporate.
