I bought this, along with the coordinating Samsung dryer in a pinch b/c my 6 y.o. Kenmore dryer died suddenly, and my washer had been rusting out in the tub for a couple of years.  So was planning to replace the washer after tax returns in the spring anyway, but the dryer had different ideas.

After reading through tons of customer reviews, I was torn between the LG models and the Samsung models.  I opted for non-steam models b/c of the much higher cost and b/c I figure the more mechanisms you have in an appliance, the more likely something will break. Anyway, what finally swayed me to the Samsung was a combination of 2 things:  The Samsung customer reviews seemed to have fewer disgruntled buyers.....the LG models would have several glowing reviews followed by a couple of "lemons" I guess.  The Samsung had fewer disgruntled customer reviews complaining of major malfunctions. Secondly, I really wanted the Silvercare.  I don't like to use hot water wash cycles b/c hot water wears your clothes out sooner, so being able to sanitize in cold, especially since I have a small child, seemed ideal.

LOVE my washer so far.  Have had it about 2 mos.  It cleans very well....not perfect on stains, but better than my old top loader.  I can use cold water, unscented detergent and unscented fabric softener and with the silver care cycle, or for that matter even without the silvercare, my clothes come out smelling fresh.  With my old top loader, using cold water left perspiration odors in our shirts.  It operates quietly.  And I'm using so much less detergent.  I was always using extra in our last washer trying to get the clothes to actually get clean, but now I'm using a tiny fraction.  So far the bottle of detergent that would've lasted me a month tops is only half empty after 2 mos.

Only real con I have was the price.  With the drawers for both washer and dryer and a service plan, whole set cost me $2300.  Hopefully the savings on cost of water and detergent will recoup some of that.

I ended up going with Best Buy to purchase.  They're service plan through Geek squad  couldn't be beat.  5 years.  THey replace it if they have to come out more than 3 times for service.  It was less than half the cost of Sears extended warranty program.  Best Buy's delivery time was really fast too, which is important when you're without a washer and dryer and don't want to have to lug your laundry plus a 3 y.o. to the laundromat!

Colors are nice, but we went with white.  At $100 more each, I didn't see the point.  Who looks at your washer and dryer anyway?

I have this same set! Purchased in October of 2008 at the same time. I have a lot of trouble with getting stains out, towels smelling funny and very dingy whites. I have mine hooked up to a water softener, use only HE Tide, HE Clorox Bleach. I have tried the sanitize cycle, whites with extra rinse at hottest setting and silvercare.....all results the same...still stains and dingy whites that have to be replaced every couple of months.

In response to cschofield's comment from Dec 28, 2008 at 1:01PM:

I had one pair of pajama pants snag up in the washer. They are a rayon blend so I thought it had something to do with the fabric and the cycle I chose (they are old so I threw them in with a heavy duty load and I figured that was the issue b/c the spin is so fast). Otherwise, I haven't noticed any issues, even with using the hot water sanitize or the heavy duty cycles. I'd call the warranty number or customer service and have the issue checked out for sure.

I have the samsung silvercare washer and dryer also and I was wondering if you are having any problems with the machines snagging your clothing? It seems like after every load I have a snagged shirt and it destroyed many of my towels...I have not heard any bad reviews so I wonder if my machine has some issues? Thanks
