We poured through hundreds of reviews looking for a good washer and dryer.  Sorry to say that we got major sticker-shock:  the last time we bough a new set (only 8 years prior), we bought BOTH machines -- and had money left over -- for the price we paid for JUST the washer this time around!  :-/

That said, we never would have considered Samsung, but all reviews kept coming up as very positive and very reliable.  Because of the painfully small area where we live and complete screw-ups from the store we bought from, they actually upgraded both models (to a newer) than the ones we tried to buy.  The washer is a seemingly standard front-loader (our first), and it is extremely efficient.  It uses very little water (far less than the dishwasher!) and very little high-efficiency detergent (we do a minimum of 2 loads per week and are still on the same 150-oz. bottle -- over 7 months!).  It has multiple settings to accommodate for linens, towels, and the like, but even the normal wash is just fine.  I'm not completely sure, but it also seems to have a "sensor" on it where it may reduce the time counter if the wash is going well and already clean; either that, or the cycles are just so very fast and efficient.

Now, a word about QUIET:  we read about half-and-half reviews that said either Samsung washers are the loudest machines they've ever owned, or the quietest ever.  I believe the PLACEMENT of the washer has a huge impact on how "loud" the washer is!  Our laundry room happens to be downstairs in our two-story home; thus, it is extremely quiet and **does not** shake (as some reviewers may claim) because it sits on our foundation (being on the first floor) rather than on just wood and reinforcement (on the second floor).

ALSO, a word about "the smell;" as with the half-and-half positive/negative reactions to loudness of the washer, there is an ongoing debate about a moldy smell.  All that is required is to leave the washer open for several hours after a wash cycle, even if it's just a sock wedged so that the door doesn't close shut.  Simply allow the machine to air-dry, and we've never before had a problem with the moldy smell.

We are pleasantly surprised with the quality of Samsung in our washer and dryer, and this is reflected in their TVs as well.
