The M52 is a good phone offset by poor hands-free convenience.

2

Although the Samsung M520 is a quality phone I find its bluetooth features make me want to go back to my A500. I use my phone daily, 8+ hours. I am active both outside and at my computer, therefore a hands-free connection is a major plus. As comfortable as my headset is I really don't enjoy wearing it non-stop 8-10 hours per day, every day. If sitting in my office at the keyboard I like to pull the bluetooth out of my ear and set it on the desk, ready for a quick plug into the old ear and answer. However, this phone lacks any feature to allow it to ring both at the headset and handset simultaneously. Therefore I either have to wear the headset constantly or go into the setup menu multiple times throughout the day turning the bluetooth on and off. This then also precludes using both hands from continuing to type while I converse on the phone. Although the sound and construction quality of the phone are up what I expect of Samsung, the convenience of using it hands-free is deplorable.

SPH-M520 is to Samsung Phones as George Lazenby was to Bond.

3

Ok, for those unfamiliar with Geaorge Lazenby, let me clarify: he played James Bond in one film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service which was sanwiched between 2 Sean Connery ones in the 60's.  The Samsung/Sprint SPH-M520 is much like Mr. Lazenby's acting in the film; Not the best in delivery of speech (I often have problems getting a clear signal), underpowered (Bond did not have a lot of gadgets in this film, and the camera in this phone is poor compared to its' predecessor, the SPH-M500), but very attractive looking. It is bluetooth-capable, which does make up for the tremendous design flaw of the proprietary combination power-jack/earpiece jack.  Still it annoys me, because it's not easy to get a DC car adapter for them, compared to most other phones.  I'm a fan of Samsung products, I have loads of them.  This one just didn't live up.

I didn't want a cell phone but I drive over 2 hours each day, commuting from home to work.  It is open highway and not having a cell phone, well it would just be not smart.  I had one before and really didn't like it.  It was hard to use and I would end up locking myself out of it or freezing the thing up.  I went to my local Sprint store and asked for something idiot proof.  They showed me this phone and took the time to show me how easy it could be.  I took right to it.  It is simple and seems to have an endless battery life.  I have never ran my battery dead.  I can text with ease, (something I never thought I would do) I surf the web and check my email.  I am completely happy with this phone.  The slide model is even a plus.  I put it in my pocket and go.  It has a strong buzzer and even in loose pants, you feel the buzz.  I am hard on a phone,  I broke the screen on my last and was always afraid of snapping the flip up.  The slide up is perfect for me. Last but not least, I can see the buttons.  A huge thing as you get a bit older. I recommend it with 5 stars!

Decent phone Samsung M520

I have owned this cell phone since July of 2008 using Sprint service. The phone i bought used from a local guy who used it for less than a month he had said at the time. I chose this phone because i really like the sliding style of the phone. I prefer phones where the keypad is hidden and can be hidden while talking as well. Its a pretty simple phone with Java features, bluetooth, internet browsing functionalities, etc. battery life so far seems reasonable unlike my previous samsung which couldn't hold a charge for more than 30 minutes but then again it was about 7 years old. As for negatives, i am having dead pixels on the screen starting earlier this year. it was just a few at first but now has spread like a spidercrack on glass. its not too bad but i dont like that my phone has this. Also the music app just abruptly stopped working. if i were to open the music app, it starts loading but then goes back to the home page. There are better phones out there, dont get this one.

Disaster

Sprint has a wonderful service, but this phone doesn not provide one. It breaks down so much. Even before breaking down, it has very weird, poor, unreasonable trait. When I am calling, and someone else calls me at the same time, it just crashes. it does not let me to asnwer the phone, or nothing else. It just crashes. Well, that wouldn't be at least a major issue, yet, the arrows sometime will not work. and option button as well. So when you try to read all the contents of your text, it doesn't let you. so the half of the message remains as a mystery. and try to find a phone number of your contact becomes impossible, let alone sometimes texting or calling is impossible as well. I am very frustrated with this malfunction of the button. sometimes it wokrs ok, but many many times it doens't...so i guess this is just useless. so those ones with 2 year contract and doesn't want to upgrade stuck with it.  One recommendation is that you might want to buy at costco which offers another year or warranty from a manufacturer or use the credit card which offers double the coverage of orignal warranty for your convenience.

It gets the job done

3

I bought the Samsung M520 about a year and a half ago when I first signed on with Sprint.  It was the hottest thing on the market at the time.  Of course, any technology gets outdated quickly these days.  When I first got the phone, I had no problems with it.  I got the Everything Data plan that includes unlimited data.  The plan includes TV, music, GPS, internet, the whole nine yards.  The screen size is a bit small for my liking, but does the job.  One of the things that really annoys me about the phone is the fact that it doesn't have a QWERTY keypad.  The T9 keypad is not the quickest way to send text, and if you accidently skip past the letter you need, you have to go through the whole list again.  The GPS is Telenav, and it leaves a lot to be desired.  It takes forever to load up, and half the time doesn't work properly.  The TV is nice though, and the quality of it has improved since I bought the phone.  The music works great too.  I like the Samsung phone, but the M520 is not the best one out there.

A reliable phone without all the unecessary whistles

4

We received this phone from Sprint after my husband's old phone had died and they no longer carried it. At first the sliding affected how he answered the phone as he often forgot to slide it up and missed calls. However, that was quickly over come. We have not had any difficulties with the phone except that it doesn't want to hold a charge for very long. I have a Samsung as well but a different model and my phone holds a charge for two to three days longer than my husband's phone. For my husband who loses or kills cell phones on a regular basis, this phone does the trick. We do not surf the internet on our cell phones but we do text. The buttons are large enough to text without hitting fifteen other buttons in the process but it can still be cumbersome at times. Without using the GPS features and internet capabilities this phone does very well. We haven't used those features so we cannot attest to their performance.

Samsung takes a licking, and keeps on ticking.

My Samsung phone from sprint is a red phone which is very visually appealing.  I've dropped it several times and it has a couple nicks and chips but it still works fine.  The service sucks most of the time, I don't know if I should blame Sprint for that or the phone.  Other than that, the pictures are not the best, it does not have a flash, so night pictures don't come out at all.  The speaker phone is not the best either.  The person you called will not be able to hear you.  You can choose your screensaver from pictures you have taken or pre stored pictures that come with the phone.  It is a sturdy phone, so if you tend to drop things, but you still want a cute phone this might work for you.  I have even dropped it on concrete and it still works.  It was one of the freebies from Sprint for extending my contract, however now I do not have direct connect service any longer.  All in all, it is a pretty good phone to be free.

Great cell phone

5

The samsung M520 cell phone is great. I've had it for about a month month and really like it. It has great sound quality and is very easy to use. It doesn't have alot of bells and whistles but is great for a busy mom who needs to stay in touch with the kids. It has a camera, recoder, instant messaging, internet, alarm, memo pad, voicemail and memo pad, calculator, bluetooth and all other features one might need with a cell phone. This is the first phone I've with texting capabilities and I just love. it's a quick and easy way to get ahold of someone. I'm glad I picked this phone. This is my second Samsung phone. I've had great luck with this brand. The phone is also very light weight and sleek looking. It's a shiny silver and very small and easy to carry around in purse or pocket.
