great phone, though takes pictures on it's own

I love the style of this phone, screen, and buttons. The only down side is that the camera button is on the side of the phone. I have many black photos that where taken while my phone was in my pocket, bag, etc. Also the camera does not take good clear photos.

Samsung t229 good basic camera phone.

The samsung t229 is essientially a good basic camera phone. It does not have video (but I find that for those I know that have cell phones with video, they very rarely use it anyway, so for me it is a waste.) It does have speaker phone which works well in close range. The organizer seems a bit overly complicated and lacks a feature to move or copy events if you put them on the wrong date. While on a call, you can send messages, but you can not access the main menu (something I would really like to be able to do!) The off center front screen does not seem to be a hit with everyone but it does not personally bother me. I would like the camera better if it had a flash, altho I do enjoy the fun borders that come with the phone. It also comes with demo versions of some games, which are mainly just a tease. Over all if you are looking for a basic camera phone this is a good choice. While some features are annoying, others are good and the phone performs well.

Good for the average user.

I own the black version, which blends well with the silver/grey interior and framework. I will get the negatives out of the way: the buttons are a little mushy (but bare-able), the camera does not have the best quality (but depends how much you need it or not), and the back of the phone is silver (which shows scratches easily if you dent it). That being aside, I think it has pretty decent sound receiving quality. More importantly, it seems to be very durable. The flip-phone withstood the (accidental) fall onto cement from the height of more than 10 feet...without breaking apart. As soon as I picked it up, it worked just as good as before I had dropped the phone. (And there were no significant physical cracks or dents! -- from the fall that is).

Excellent for what I need.

I have had this phone and one similar to it for about 8 or more years. In the past I have had other phones and as far as the durablity this one is much better, also easy to handle is perfect. It had not been a problem for me to keep up with, very easy to slide in my pocket or in my cell phone holder in my purse. I am a true fan of this phone because the battery has held ulp well as well as the wear and tear on my phone. If this phone would go off the market I would difintely look for another one pretty close to it's charater.

The Samsung - SGH-t229 is a very reliable phone.

I received my Samsung SGH-t229 cell phone for free when I signed up for phone service from T-Mobile.  It is a flip phone and mine happens to be red but they had other colors.  This phone comes with alot of features.  You get a camera, speakerphone, can access the internet, games, and other types of applications like calculator and calendar.  You can also take a picture and then add things around it to make it look like a frame and then you can also add a voice memo before sending it off to someone.  It comes with lots of memory and is very easy to learn how to use.  I never opened the instruction manual and I was able to figure it all out with great ease in a very short amount of time.  You can assign pictures to numbers of people you know, even their picture.  You can also assign different ringtones to different people.  This cell phone also has a feature I've never seen on any other phone, you can block phone numbers of people you don't want to receive calls from.  I've blocked several numbers and it will show you they called in your call list but your phone will never ring or tell you that you have a missed call.  This phone may not be a fancy as some new ones out there but I don't need all that excess, just a practical phone that comes with just what you need.  This is a great phone.

Its an ok basic phone but I wouldn't recomend it.

The Samsung SGH-T229 cell phone has a good compact flip phone design that even seems to stand up to the ocasional bump or drop. I have had a few issues with the system itself. Ocassionally the screen lights fail to shut off on thier own which drasticly cuts down the battery life. This seems to happen when being disconected from the charger. The way around this is to open then close the flip top. The phone has also occasionally sent text messages to the wrong person even though the right one was picked and when checked it shows the wrong one in the history. It has also randomly resent messages for no reason at all. Also memory capacity for text messages leaves alot to be desired and fills quickly but it hasa plenty of room for the address book. The address book even gives some nice extras compared to some of the phones I've used including email address, mobile number, home number, business number, fax number, and a small section for notes on each contact.

This is the worst cell phone I have ever owned

I got this phone when my 2 year old son spilled orange juice all over my motorola Razor (which it loved by the way, great phone!!) and it died.  I picked this phone out online and ordered it.  It is not a sturdy phone by any means!  It is hard to use, and the screen is tiny, worst of all it is not durable at all.  I was outside walking slowly with my kiddos and I had put my phone in my shorts pocket.  It slipped out and fell to the ground.  The flip top of the phone completely broke off and the phone stopped working, you couldn't even turn it on!  I have had lots of cell phones in my life, and I have dropped a bunch (It happens when you have your hands full with kids) but none have ever fallen apart like this.  So I would only recomend this phone for a very careful person who never makes mistakes.  One more more thing I didn't like about the phone was that it was grey on the back instead of red, looks cheapy!!!!

The Sam-sung SGH-t229 has been a great phone for me and it comes in my favorite color "red".  I have dropped it many , many  times and it never breaks. The phone has lots of features including  a VGA Camera with 4x Digital Zoom , Bluetooth wireless technology and a user friendly menu. It has instant messaging and sound/ image media capability. Fun and Apps include files , camera , alarms , calender , world time , a timer and stop watch. Games are Bubble Bash ,Midnight Pool and Forgotten Warrior. The graphics are good as well as the sound. My service provider is T-Mobile so I use a Sim Card. I particularly like this feature because of my lack of writing numbers down. The navigation key seems a bit wider then on other phones  which makes it easy to scroll. I enjoy texting, the template's and picture messages are fun and convenient. Other features include voice note , audio postcards , ABC Mode and T9. I could go on and on but bottom line is this if you want a fun phone that is solid and extremely durable, get the Sam-sung SGH-t229.

I am writing a review the phone in question: the **Samsung SGH t229 Cell Phone.  **I got it through t-mobile, my husband bought it.  It is actually an easy phone to learn, and reliable.  I wish it were a little slimmer, but you have web capability, a clear camera, simple designs that make the phone easy to navigate.  Even if you are computer illiterate, this phone is easy to comprehend, and i'm glad i have it. Would definitely recommend it to a not so cell phone savvy person.

Poor antenna, hard for others to hear, difficult features.

I have never managed to have as many bars for reception as other T-Mobile users. The text message function does not allow the user to change the default from predictive as far as I can tell after pouring over the manual and trying everything with the phone. The phone claims to have picture texting capabilities even without having a camera, however I have always had T-Mobile's website catch anything sent to the phone and no picture messages will successfully transmit from the phone. I have not had any success using the ear bud for this cell - no one can hear or understand me. This phone is not typically found at the T-Mobile stores any longer, but can be found through the website and sometimes other vendors. If you are looking for a less expensive model with solid basics, I would consider looking at a Nokia or Motorola instead.
