I have shopped at Sam's Wine & Spirits in Lincoln Park for the last ten years. I love the store for many reasons. Before I get into them, one important disclosure. I know Brian Rosen and Fred Rosen. Brian is the current CEO and his father Fred was the founder of the store. I met him many years after I was a loyal customer.
I believe wine shopping should not be intimidating or snobish. While I enjoy wine and drink it often, I do not consider my self a wine snob or a wine aficionado. I have been to Napa several times and tend to focus most of my buying on California wines. I find buying French and Italian wines to be difficult because there are so many regions and vineyards and vintages to keep track of. I subscribe to Wine Spectator but not because I follow their advice. It is more like wine porn. One day I will have more time to learn about and drink the great wines of the world.
All that said, I have discovered many great wines at Sam's from around the world. However most of my buying is U.S. based.
So here are my reasons for loving Sam's
Oh and did I mention that they received 2005 Retailer of the Year from Wine Enthusiast Magazine?
