I am an avid fan of the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb (a.k.a. Nora Roberts).  The 27th book in the series, Salvation in Death hit the shelves on November 4...I was so excited to read it that I made a special trip to Borders just to pick it up.  Salvation in Death proved to be just as great as the 26 books that came before it.

The "In Death" series features Eve Dallas, a tough New York City Homicide Lieutenant, her bad-boy husband Roarke, and her bouncy partner Detective Delia Peabody.  Salvation in Death begins in the year 2060 with the murder of a local Catholic priest in Spanish Harlem.  Soon after, another religious figure is killed in the same way: by drinking potassium cyanide.  What is the link?  Are the two murders connected, and if so, how?  Eve and Peabody eventually find out that "Father Flores" is actually a former gang member posing as a priest.  This discovery raises the questions of why Lino Martinez was posing as a priest, and the whereabouts of the real Father Flores.  As Dallas sinks deeper into the investigation, she unearths evidence that may close a decades-old, multiple murder and bombing case.  Even though Lino Martinez deserved a severe punishment for his many horrible crimes, Dallas is compelled to bring his murderer to justice.  No matter how distasteful that my prove to be.

Salvation in Death was one of those books that I just couldn't put down.  I finished it in 2 days, and will probably read it again in the future.  The intriguing characters are well-developed and have very real personalities.  I like that Robb's characters have their share of flaws and weaknesses to balance out the heroism.  It makes them easy to relate to and more human.  The plot has intricate twists and turns that always keep you on your toes.  You don't know exactly what happens until the very end when Dallas has the culprit in interrogation.  I like that Robb's books aren't predictable and keep me guessing right up until the end of the story.  I recommend Salvation in Death to anyone who enjoys a good read.
