Sally Hansen Extra Strength Hair Remover - Lotion or Foam —

There is nothing worse that I hate to do in the shower but shave. If I want to keep my legs nice and smooth, I have to shave them daily which is not only time consuming but can cause razor bumps or nicks. I decided that I wanted to try a hair remover instead. I went to WalMart and saw Sally Hansen Extra Strength Hair Remover Lotion and Sally Hanson Extra Strength Spray-On Shower-Off Hair Remover. They both claimed to remove hair in three minutes but I couldn't decide which would work better so ... I bought both. The following is what I found out.

Sally Hansen Extra Strength Hair Remover Lotion

Facts:

  • Around $4.49 for a 10 fl. oz. bottle
  • Especially good on coarse hard to remove hair
  • For body, legs, bikini area and more
  • Salon tested and Dermatologist tested
  • Not tested on animals
  • Watermelon or Tangerine Dream scent
  • Lotion applied with hands out of bottle
  • Reduces appearance of hair regrowth (All Natural Complex of Saw Palmetto, Willow Herb and Pumpkin Seed Extracts)
  • Formulated with moisturizing Aloe Vera, Henna and Wild Cherry for soft, smooth skin

This lotion comes in a plastic bottle with an easy snap open cap. Once snapped open, I squeezed out the white lotion into the palm of my hand and could immediately smell a strong unpleasant odor that was nothing like the watermelon scent that the container said it was. It actually smelled like a salon with several women getting perms. Once I got used to the odor, I applied the lotion to my legs and although the lotion has a medium consistency, I had to reapply several times to cover my legs completely. What a mess it was trying to get the handle the container with the lotion all over my hands. I washed my hands thoroughly as directed and waited. The container claims it only takes about three minutes but to test a small area first. I did and three minutes was nowhere near long enough. The container cautions not to leave on longer than ten minutes total but I did find it necessary to wait about eight minutes before I noticed the hair beginning to remove with lukewarm water and a washcloth. Once completely rinsed off, hair was removed but I noticed that several places were missed and it was necessary to use a razor to remove the rest. My legs didn't feel dry after but they did feel stubbly. Definitely not as smooth as using a razor. I used the product for several days and didn't notice any reduction in hair regrowth as the container claimed. This one is getting 3 stars from me.

Sally Hansen Extra Strength Spray-On Shower-Off Hair Remover

Facts:

  • Around $6.50 for a 6 oz. can
  • For course or hard to remove hair
  • For body, legs, arms and more
  • Salon tested and Dermatologist tested
  • Not tested on animals
  • Vanilla Scent
  • Drip free spray - no touching, no spreading, no mess
  • Contains silk protein and rich triple butters

This hair remover comes in a convenient can that has an easy spray applicator. I shook the can as directed and sprayed a generous amount of hair remover on my legs. I could also smell an odor that had a hint of hair perm scent but nowhere near as strong as the lotion. The foam came out of the can easily and a nice generous amount of spray covered my legs evenly. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't spray all over the place like hairspray. I was able to cover my legs in a quicker time with no mess. I did notice that if the can were not held in a perfect upright position, it would stall. I had a little trouble with that when I was trying to reach the back of my legs. Same as with the lotion, three minutes was the minimum time to check for hair removal. Like with the lotion, I did have to wait longer but for only about six minutes versus the eight with the other. As with the lotion, I rinsed the foam off with lukewarm water and followed lightly with a washcloth. Hair was effectively removed and although there was a hair or two left behind, I got much better results than with the lotion. My legs didn't feel dry but they still weren't as smooth as if I shaved. I'm going with 4 stars for the foam.

My Final Viewpoint

I definitely choose the Sally Hansen Extra Strength Spray-On Shower-Off Hair Remover even though it cost more money for less product. I had to use more of the lotion anyway to get the same results as I did with the foam. The foam smells better, it's easier and less messy to apply and I got much better results in a shorter period of time. I recommend the spray foam over the lotion without a doubt.

My favorite part of the foam was it wasn't drippy and so easy to use. I stick to my razor but use the foam/creme for my daughter.

Thanks for an honest answer. I think I'll stick to my razor too though :)

Personally, I would still go with the razor but remember, I have dark curly hair and mine is probably harder to remove than yours. Haha. It might work really well for you since your hair is a lot lighter on your legs. Did any of that make sense? lol

I'm curious...even though neither product's results were as good as shaving with a razor, would you choose the foam over shaving with a razor? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. I always see these products and look at them, but never end up buying them for whatever reason. Thanks for doing the research for me :)
