I am a dark rum girl all the way and when choosing my favorite liquor brand I would say it is Captain Morgan. To me, Sailor Jerry Spiced rum is a fair substitution to that. It has the same sweet undertones, goes down pretty smooth and works great for mixed drinks such as rum and coke, dr. pepper, rootbeer, ginger ale, etc. Compared to Captain Morgan, it isn't quite as smooth, and maybe slightly less sweet. When mixed, depending how strong you mix your drinks of course, there isn't a huge difference. The one main benefit of having Sailor Jerry's though is the price. It is slightly cheaper so if you're on a budget and don't mind the slight taste difference I'd say Sailor Jerry's is the way to go.

Kiss the "Captain" good bye. Seriously,please do it. Do yourself a favor. Sailor Jerry is calling you, "try me! just once! you'll never go back! I will take care of you!" People, Sailor Jerry is the best spiced rum on the market. Hands down. It tastes delicious. It is a bit "spicier" than other "spiced rums." And it is spicier in all the right ways. It's doesn't have that weird (nasty...sorry) Captain Morgan after taste. It has such a more natural, classic flavor to it. It has a nice bite, goes down oh so smooth, and is just plain, well, good. My heart jumps a bit when my husband comes home with a bottle. It beats a heart shaped box of chocolates any day. AND it comes with a different sexy pin-up girl under each back label. I mean, it just doesn't get any better. I could go on gushing about Sailor Jerry all day, but I think you get the point. <3

Sailor Jerry is honestly the best tasting spiced rum on the market in the price range. This spirit is extremely cheap for its quality, and is available in a multitude of sizes. This spirit is also bottled at a higher alcohol content than its competitors, a win win.

I bought the first bottle because, well, it's Sailor Jerry!  Always been a big fan of his tattoo art and already a big rum fan, decided to give it a shot.  I normally am a Captain Morgan fan but I think I've found my new favorite!  Sailor Jerry rum is smooth and tasty, great as a shot or mixed with Coke or even Dr Pepper.  No bad aftertaste or hangovers, this stuff is easy to drink and I would highly recommend it for a rum-lover to give it a shot.  At a great price per bottle, you can't go wrong!

Ick... I'm a rum lover, but this rum has a nasty licorice taste or something nasty that makes it very undesirable. Whenever my usual rum isn't at a bar and all they have is Sailor Jerry - I choose to not drink rum at all! I am a dedicated Captain Morgan and coke girl. I really really like the taste. I can always tell when I order a Captain and the bartender tries to put a different rum in my drink instead. I know different people prefer different tastes - so I'm sure there are some people who really like the taste of Sailor Jerry and hate Captain Morgan. I am not sure how, but I'm sure it happens. I say give it a try - just don't buy a bottle of it until you know you like it! Try it out at the bar and see if it it up to par with your own rum standards. I don't know how to describe the taste other than it's not Captain Morgan. If you've had Kilo Kai rum and like it - then you might like Sailor Jerry because they are both sweet and licorice-like.

I love this rum. It has so much more flavor than Captain Morgan and stronger (92 proof). I'm hoping more bars will start serving it. Just add Pepsi or Coke and you have a great drink. I've found it in the large bottle at Lukas Liquior Store. It was recomended by the staff. Good suggestion. I haven't bought the "captian" since! Smooth with a wonderful flavor I haven't found any where else.
