No expensive refills. Used plug-in refills as deodorizer.
I received the diaper genie II at my baby shower. We used it for the first few months until the refills got to be too expensive for our budget and it seemed that we were taking a bag out to the trash every other day. I then did some research and found the Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail. The Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail doesn't require any expensive refills to use. It does have a compartment for a disc deodorizer that you can purchase at large baby supply stores but we didn't notice that deodorizer did anything. We used the one that it came with and that was it. We didn't buy anymore. Once my daughter started eating real food and having real stinky ones, we used a glade plug-in refill in that compartment. It masked the smell quite well. We used plain old 13 gal kitchen garbage bags and it held a lot more dirty diapers than the diaper genie ever could. My mother bought one of these for use at her house and she has had problems with the spring coming off on top where you push the diaper through to the bag. I do notice that the bathroom starts to smell a little when the bag is getting full in hers. I have not had this issue at all with mine and mine was definitely used more than hers.
