Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail

No expensive refills. Used plug-in refills as deodorizer.

I received the diaper genie II at my baby shower.  We used it for the first few months until the refills got to be too expensive for our budget and it seemed that we were taking a bag out to the trash every other day.  I then did some research and found the Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail. The Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail doesn't require any expensive refills to use.  It does have a compartment for a disc deodorizer that you can purchase at large baby supply stores but we didn't notice that deodorizer did anything.  We used the one that it came with and that was it.  We didn't buy anymore.  Once my daughter started eating real food and having real stinky ones, we used a glade plug-in refill in that compartment.   It masked the smell quite well.  We used plain old 13 gal kitchen garbage bags and it held a lot more dirty diapers than the diaper genie ever could. My mother bought one of these for use at her house and she has had problems with the spring coming off on top where you push the diaper through to the bag.  I do notice that the bathroom starts to smell a little when the bag is getting full in hers.  I have not had this issue at all with mine and mine was definitely used more than hers.

Great! Money saving!

I thought a lot about what diaper pail I wanted when we started having kids. I didn't want a Diaper Genie because you have to use the specific diaper bags. Which were costly. Also I didn't like the idea of it being in a baby's room and it has blades in it. I wanted something easy to use. I wanted something that I could put in a regular trash bag. I was glad when I found this. It was a great price. It comes with a little deodorizer thing in the top. It has a large capacity for diapers as well. I am on my second one. My other one was no longer keeping the diaper scent out, but it lasted a long time. About 4 years. We often deodorize the one we have with Lysol scented spray. We also use the order blocking garbage bags. This makes it wonderful. It hasn't let the scent leak out yet. The only thing I don't like is I can't find a way to remove and replace the deodorizer disk in the top. I love this diaper pail and will be sticking with it.

Great diaper pail

We bought this diaper pail right before we had our second set of twins.  With our first set, we had the Diaper Genie and it was a real pain - with having to buy specific refills, etc.  I bought this Safety 1st pail because there was nothing special to it.  It works well for more than disposable diapers - we use it for our cloth diapers.  The cost was very appealing - very easy on the wallet. We have not have any issues with bad smells.  I imagine that the pail would work just as well with disposable diapers.  We've been using it for a year and a half now and it is holding up great. People tend to make things more difficult than they need to be - love the simplicity of this pail!  The only thing I would change about it is I would make it a little bit bigger.  It's not enough of an issue to not recommend the pail though.  So, great price, great easy-to-use pail, no expensive refills or bags to buy = great diaper pail!

Works well...don't see the need for more complicated diaper pail

When I was in the market for a diaper pail, I inquired with friends to see which ones they had tried out and if they liked them or not.  Everyone was saying that the Diaper Genie (or variations of this model) was the best, but when I read up on it and even looked at one in person, I was shocked at how pricey it was and didn't like the fact that you had to buy the refills and couldn't use just ordinary plastic garbage bags to line it. So I decided on the lesser heard of Safety 1st Easy Saver diaper pail which I found at a gently used children's boutique I shop at.  Although it does say you can use the scent discs to eliminate odor, mine didn't come with that and honestly, I really don't see the need for it (just empty the pail when it gets full and you'll be fine). I like this pail because it accomodates quite a few dirty diapers and it has a button you can press to open the lid and pop the dirty diaper in easily. It's just your average diaper pail these days (with no "bells and whistles"), but it definitely does the trick because when it comes to these, you really don't need anything fancy.  I'm pleased with my find!

Not a single smell!

We bought the Safety 1st Easy Diaper Pail for one reason. We didn't have to buy a specific type of refill. We use our everyday, ordinary trash bags in it! That's value right there! We've been using the pail for three years now. It started in our nursery, but when the kiddo started to walk, we moved it to the laundry room. We have to show babysitters where it is because you cannot smell it at all! Seriously! The only time you smell anything is when you open it to put a new one in. We counter that by tossing our dryer lint and used dryer sheets in there too. That really seems to help. It's placed next to the cat litter box. It is really easy on trash day to pop open the lid and just scoop directly into the pail. Remove the bag, put a new one in, and wa-lah! it's ready to go. I can't think of a single negative for this pail! Yes, there is a spot to put the odor disk, but we don't use one and it doesn't matter! For a while I was putting cotton balls soaked in perfume in the odor disk holder, but I got away from that.
