When I was registering for my baby registry, I asked my friends what their experience was with certain products before I made my own decisions. One of things I inquired about was diaper pails. I heard that Diaper Genie&******* a pain in the butt and the refills were expensive, so I didn't bother with it; instead I got the Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail. It appeared to be a relatively nice diaper pail and it was inexpensive, so it seemed great at the time.
The Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail can easily pop open with one hand for disposing dirty diapers. It uses regular trash bags, so you don't have to buy a special bag, but it does require special "odor discs" that are sold by Safety 1st.
On the top of the diaper pail where you drop dirty diapers, there is a compartment for placing an odor disc. The odor disc smells like baby powder and lasts about two weeks if you're lucky and even then, a horrible whiff of dirty diapers is evident every time you open the lid. I was really annoyed at how loud it is when you close the lid to the diaper pail. The odor disc in it's special compartment is plastic and so is the compartment, so each time you close the lid, the loud clinking of the plastic is horrendous. Then after about six months of use, the lid that pops up to dispose of a dirty diaper broke and wouldn't shut anymore and made the Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail inoperable and useless.
This diaper pail is more trouble than it's worth. The only thing I liked about it was that you could pop a dirty diaper in there with one hand. I wouldn't recommend this diaper pail even though it is super cheap (around $16.99).
