I am a bit disappointed with this product, especially because I am very fond of Safety First products. I understand that it is one of the more simpler models and is less costly however, that does not justify to me, the reasoning for the monitor emitting extreme static waves when it's set correctly on the right/matching channels. It seems to get worse around electricity; whether it be lights being turned on and off, the microwave running or the refrigerator running or a human being walking by it. It's quite annoying. If you mess with it long enough it will stop for awhile but inevitably starts back up again. As far as appearance it's simple but attractive. If it wasn't for the fact that my son is about to turn 2 and soon no longer need to be monitored by it, then I would have ended up buying a new one. Sound/Video Clarity This monitor is super sensitive which can be both positive and negative. Focusing on the positives of it, it is very sensitive to any movement within my son's room, whether the base is right beside him or clear across the other side of the room and it's a very large room so I'm very impressed with that. When turned up to the highest volume, I can hear him breathing which is very comforting, especially when he was a newborn-6mos and was at a higher risk for SIDS. Interference As mentioned in my Overall Rating, there is a moderate amount of interference no matter if its set on channel one or two and I always make sure the base channel is matched up to the monitor channel. The interference is pure static noise not passing CB's or other electronic devices but regardless, it's very annoying.. Durability For the price and simplicity of this model of monitor it is exceptionally durable. Portability Simple and small and easy to throw in the diaper bag for a stay at Grandma's house, etc.

This monitor has been invaluable to me! I have used it for my cats when they happen to escape, so when they decide to come back home, if I don't hear them meowing or scratching thru the door, I can hear it thru the monitor I left outside. When my teenagers get sick, I use it for her as well. They may not be infants anymore, but a mommy still wants to check on her sick baby, preferably without disturbing them. I can also do what I need to while knowing if they need me, the monitor will pick it up. It has great sound, so I can hear everything I need to hear clearly, though there is some static if it's up too loud. Sound/Video Clarity No video, but the sound is great. As long as I turn the volume down a bit, I can hear what I want to, thought it does cause the sound I'm listening for to be a bit quieter. Interference It does have some feedback. I need to lower the volume to be able to hear without all the noise, though that just makes the sound I'm trying to hear quieter. Durability I have dropped it and bumped it into everything, my cats have gotten to it, and it still seems to be working just fine. Portability I have used mine outside on my porch. This way, I am able to hear my cat when he comes home no matter how quiet his scratching and meowing may be.

Despite the reviews I read about this product, I decided to buy it because it was cheap and I did not want to start out spending a lot of money on a baby monitor.  I have been delightfully surprised at how much I like this monitor after all of the bad pulicity it got in the reviews I read. I use this monitor plugged in and with battery.  It does drain batteries, but compared to other monitors, I do not know if it is comperable or more.  Not enough to make me dislike the product.  I keep it plugged in in my living room when I am in the house and need to hear the baby during nap time.  It is plugged in away from other electrical items to avoid interference.  There is some white noise or static, but not bad or noticeable unless listening for it.  I can hear my baby clearly.  In fact, this monitor is so sensitive that my husband can whisper from the other end of the house and I can hear what he said. It works great outside too, good range and clarity all around my yard.  A good buy!

We've had our Safety 1st Baby Monitor since our first child--who is already 5 years old! It still works great. We don't need anything fancy and definitely did not want anything too expensive, so this is a nice, basic baby monitor. Sometimes other electronics will interfere and cause static temporarily--like running the blender or vacuum. And if the receiver sits too close to something like the radio while the radio is on it will buzz. But I'm guessing that would happen no matter what the monitor. The monitor picks up noise very well, sometimes too well. :) Like you can hear the neighbors dog barking (distantly) in it sometimes. Good volume control, you can turn it up quite high (if I'm watching TV in the other room I'll turn it up high). It's nice having the peace of mind when you're busy working cleaning the house or whatever that you will hear the baby when he wakes up. And it takes batteries so you can take it outside when you're gardening or whatever.

This is one of those things you buy as a new parent thinking that your really going to need it. The product was good never had any problems with it but was not very useful, save your money you'll need them for diapers.

I have been using this monitor for about a year to listen to our grandchild.  I did not realize that some monitors were quiet enough to hear the baby sleeping until I visited a friend and heard her baby breathing over the monitor.  I am planning on purchasing another monitor for the next grandchild.  This monitor is better than nothing.

My twins are now 2.5 years old, and I don't think that this monitor has been off for a day since we moved them into their cribs at 2 months of age.  I can't say enough good things about this monitor.  With the multiple bases, I could monitor them if they slept together or separate.  The range on this set is also wonderful.  I can travel as far as 2 houses away and still hear what is going on as if I was in the next room.  It has also acted as a great distraction toy during diaper changes and it has survived "twin play".

My son was born 5 weeks early and although he was perfectly healthy, I was a nervous wreck worrying over him.  He did have reflux and sometimes would gag in his sleep.  Having the movement sensored monitor allowed me to at least sleep a little more sound than I did the first week after he was born when I didn't have it.

We have used this monitor for almost three years and it still works great after the years of regular use. We bought it for another reason because it was the cheapest in the store, not knowing we would use it for our child too. It doesn't have some of the frills, such as lights, but that wasn't necessary for us. We were actually given one that had those extras and it did not work as well. You can use battery or adaptor, which is nice. We keep it plugged in but the battery option is reassuring in case the power goes out. We have used this in both an apartment and a house in the middle of a neighborhood. We never have had a problem with reception or crossing lines with another receiver. We have had that problem with the other one that was more expensive. I have never doubted that I wouldn't hear our son. It is clear and picks up the smallest sounds. I haven't ever carried it around with me so I can't review based on that.

This is the second baby monitor we have purchased for our 2 children under two. We use this monitor in my son's room on the second floor. The base is cheap and lightwieght. One bump from my toddler and it's on the floor. The portable portion of the monitor is also very cheap and lightweight. The weight of the cord, if bumped, could easily topple the monitor. The sound quailty is good right next to the base, but poor if the child is more than 2 feet away.There are two settings, with very little difference between the two. Feedback from the monitor is a HUGE problem. If the microwave, vaccuum, or the other monitor are on while this monitor is on it has a loud buzzing sound. Terrible. The only positive is the price.
