Safety 1st 3 in 1 Potty Chair is designed to help parents with each stage of potty training. First the chair sits on the floor with an easily removable seat and container. Parents can remove the seat itself and place it onto a regular toilet seat, where it snaps into place. Lastly, the bottom of the chair flips over so that a child may stand on it to get up to the big person toliet as well as to wash their hands at the sink.
The bottom of the chair/step stool is white. The removable seat is blue and the catch all container is white. The container has a protective cup that is a part of the seat. You simply turn it to the back of the chair for girls and turn it to the front for boys.
The price is a reasonable $9.99 at Wal-mart.
My Viewpoint: This is a pretty basic potty chair, nothing really special about it. There is no music, bells, whistles or activities for a child to do while seated at the bottom. It pretty much just gets the job done.
I do like that the container lifts out instead of sliding, making it easier to clean up and less chance of potty spills. The cover for boys could be a little higher and rounder to make sure that protection is there for those boys who are a little more creative in their potty efforts.
I prefer the seat placed on the toilet as opposed to the step stool/chair base. It does not attach to the chair base very well and is easily moved out of place. It is also difficult to get it to lock into place when placed on the base of the chair, but locks into place nice and tight on a regular toliet seat. Also by placing it on the toilet right away children learn to use the big potty that much faster and without fear.
There is no back support on this chair, so children must be able to sit in place by themselves, sometimes for more than a few minutes. It is plastic, easy to wash and disinfect.
My recommendation, use it in the guest bathroom, but not as your main potty training chair. Children need a little more comfort and entertainment to keep them interested in the potty training process. We have been much more successful with the chair that has a book rack on the side and a chair back, so she can sit there and look at books while waiting for the main event. The best part about this chair is the removable seat (which you can put into a large diaper bag for bye bye time) and the step stool which for us is used more often than the potty chair itself. We use it for washing faces and hands, looking in the mirror while combing hair and brushing teeth.
