I have been experimenting with different kinds of hummus lately.  This is a fascinating subject as it seems that this ethnic food comes in a rich variety of textures and flavors.  When I tried Athenos Roasted Garlic Hummus, I figured that's what hummus tasted like but down in Florida, Rutabaga's inc. carried a delightful tomato basil hummus which they had made themselves.  Now, here's another product which is basically hummus which might win over even those people who have firmly decided that this exotic goodie is not for them -- Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus

As you might have guessed, Peapod had a sale on this item -- for only $3 I was able to procure ten ounces of this delightful stuff, which was enough to last me for a week and a half.  Indeed, I began to think that it was miraculously replenishing itself when I wasn't looking because I got so much use out of it.  (A little hummus goes a long way!)  Even at the regular price of $3.99, it would have been a bargain.  What sets this hummus apart from the others is its delightful creamy, whipped quality.  Its smooth, light texture would make it perfect for use as a chip dip.

STATS:

One ounce of Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus (ten servings per container) consistutes a single serving which contains 80 calories with 60 calories from fat.  There are six grams total fat, half a gram saturated fat, zero cholesterol, 130 mg. sodium, four grams total carbs, one gram dietary fiber, zero sugars, two grams protein, 4% (D.V.) Vitamin C and 2% Calcium.  The fat content is high, I suppose, but once again we have to consider the context in which this fat occurs.  This isn't a candy bar or some other extraneous snack but a potential component of a satisfying light lunch or supper.

OTHER FLAVORS:

Blue & White Foods, LLC, of Astoria, NY, (718-GO-SABRA) is also pumping out Sabra Hummus in other flavors including:  Babaganoush Classic Creamy Flame Roasted Eggplant, Carmelized Onion, Chipotle, Classic Flavor, Roasted Pinenuts, Roasted Red Pepper, Sundried Tomato, and Supremely Spicy.  All these are available at Peapod and probably in the dairy department of certain supermarkets and specialty stores.

TASTE TIP:

Although Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus would make a perfect dip, I prefer to use it as a spread in place of butter or margarine.  I have found that a slice of toasted whole grain toast spread with any flavor of Sabra Hummus and accompanied by some sort of fresh fruit makes a lunch which is satisfying and can sustain me for hours.

I adore hummus and will look for Sabra. Sat fat is low, so only our conscience can guide us on the rest of that "goood" fat). Sorry but I can't ever stop at one serving of hummus.

I've never tried a Bagel Crisp but they sound good. I wish you would do a review of them! Nice to hear from you again, Buddy!

I like dipping Bagel Crisps in hummus. It's a good combination!
