Ryan's Family Steakhouse opened in Kingsport, TN in 1986. They have always catered to families. They have a menu to select from. They also have a salad bar.
In the beginning you walked & got a tray, your glass & silverware, then gave your order & paid for your meal. It was set up like a cafeteria. Now, you go in & order your meal, pay & get your receipt & go to your table. Children three & under eat free. Ryan's does not serve alcohol. You then receive your drinks & warm tasty rolls. If you ordered the bar, you can go ahead & fix your own food. If you didn't order a bar or a side bar, you can just enjoy the rolls & your drink while you wait on your meal to be served. Every meal comes with a free dessert.
I have been eating at Ryan's since it first opened. It has always been one of my favorite restaurants! I am not a steak eater. I use to eat cheeseburgers at Ryan's all the time. Now I eat chicken & the salad bar.
Some Ryan's do not have a menu. You have to get everything off the bar. Ryan's in Kingsport has both the bar & the menu. I like that better. I think that offers more of a variety. I ate in a Ryan's once that was in Cincinnati. They didn't have a menu. I really didn't care for it. I didn't feel that they had the variety that our Ryan's had. Maybe it is just what you get used too.
If you have not eaten at Ryan's or if you haven't eaten at the one in Kingsport, give it a try! This really is a good restaurant. If you don't believe it, check out the Sunday after church crowd.
Oh yeah, Ryan's serves breakfast on the week-ends! I haven't tried it but I hear that it is scrumptious!
