To the Point

I bought my mom a box of Russell Stover Assorted Chocolates and while I was at it bought myself a box. This wasn't my first meeting with Russell though and am not too impressed with Russell Stover. I think there is a huge difference among chocolate.

A Closer View

You'll often find Russel Stover on sale for as low as $4.99 for a 12-ounce box. There are 11 servings if you only have 2 candies which equal 140 calories. You'll get 17 grams of sugar.

The variety is really nice with names such as roman nougat, caramel, coconut cream, raspberry caramel, strawberry cream, fruit and nut caramel, molasses chew, chocolate truffle, Vermont nut cream, raspberry cream, pecan english walnut cluster, maple nut cream, chocolate butter cream (not thick or rich), coconut cluster, orange cream, caramel, and peanut butter crunch.

What I think

There is rarely a chocolate I meet that I don't like and that goes for Russell Stover Assorted Chocolates. You can send me a box and I promise to eat it. The problem is that most of the flavors taste the same. I really don't notice a huge difference between the creams except for the coconut but maple nut could be chocolate butter. The chocolate truffle doesn't really taste like a truffle.

Since I love coconut I'd say the coconut cluster is my favorite and for 1/2 the price it's worth the pig out. I wouldn't buy Russel Stover as a gift for anyone though. The chocolates are great for someone in the hospital who has been eating hospital food and for the really non-discerning chocolate lover.

I agree. Just point me to the Lindt truffles, please.

Although I share your tolerance for Russel Stover chocolates, they're not as good as Whitman's...or even Hershey's. There is, as you mention in your review, a certain taste-alike quality to most of the "flavors" in the cremes, and the milk chocolate is a bit too sweet for my taste.

Russell Stover's is definitely missing something. It's not as rich and creamy a chocolate quality as other fine but still affordable chocolates.

Just yesterday I bought a little box of assorted Lindt squares to have on the airplane. We are leaving tomorrow for a visit to the States for 2.5 weeks. Ugh, 19 hours in a plane with kids....

Funny, but I had a Lindt bar and what a difference. I kept the wrapper so maybe I'll review it;)

Ahh Lindt ... my mouth is watering at just the thought. And for someone who called Dayton Ohio home (and home to Ester Price Candy) for several years you know that's a compliment.

I agree with you Jo: Russell Stover is not that exciting. I find Lindt to be much tastier -but of course it is also more expensive!

I agree - these are best as a gift of some sort.
