Okay, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the name of this product didn't influence my purchase.  Goodness, he even spells Rudi the same way.

Rudi's Organic Bakery

Rudi's Organic Bakery has been a small batch artisan bread-maker operating in Boulder Colorado since 1976.  Recently I purchased a loaf of their Jewish Light Rye Bread.

I am a lover of Jewish Rye Bread with caraway seeds.  Preferably I buy it at a local bakery and have them slice it for me.  At times when I lack that much ambition, I find either Levy's or Arnold's to be adequate substitutes.

Certified Organic

Yes, it's certified organic.  Rather than give you a tedious list of ingredients, let's stipulate that it's all organic.  In place of high fructose corn syrup, an extract of natural cane sugar is used to sweeten the dough.  Since no preservatives of any kind are used its shelf life will be shorter than that of most store bought breads.

The Taste

The loaf is a very dense bread that I found to be on the dry side.  Taste-wise, this bread does not stand up to the taste of freshly baked rye bread.  Perhaps it's the absence of the corn syrup but frankly as far as packaged breads go I probably prefer the taste of the Levy's and Arnold's as well.  Keep in mind, I've been eating these packaged breads since boyhood.

It does make a decent, if somewhat bland sandwich and its density provides a good chew.

My Viewpoint

Although many will argue that organic foods are healthier for you, I have not yet been convinced enough to sacrifice taste for the claimed benefit.  At $4.29 a loaf it is significantly more expensive than either bakery fresh or packaged ryes.

But once again, for those that demand organic foods, I can recommend this bread to you.

It is available at Whole Foods and select Publix Supermarkets in South Florida.

I don't like rye bread but I enjoyed your review. Although, I feel a bit guilty now for picking up a $1 loaf of white bread for my kids tonight. Maybe I should look into organic. Thanks for the guilt trip. LOL

I've never tried this but it doesn't sound like I'm missing too much!

And I agree with Kid-Kansas on this one.

If I ate rye bread I think I would be tempted to try this one.

I love rye bread! I am not all the picky about it being organic, just tasty!
