Rubbermaid Dual Action Sweeper

4

When we moved house, and were still waiting for our household furniture to arrive, we needed to purchase an 'interim' hoover which was inexpensive but effective at cleaning the carpets in our new house. We purchased the Rubbermaid Dual Action Sweeper and go to work. Initially I found it was pretty good on low pile carpet. It successfully picked up crumbs underneath the kitchen table and dried mud the dog had left behind. I never found it to be too effective on the tiled or hardwood floor parts of the house but it was relatively effective on carpet. I like the idea of the handle folding up in order that you can clean under the sofa however it works at its best when you are able to push down on it but if you're using it under the sofa, you can't do that. After our household furniture arrived I continued to use this for a while as it was free to use and didn't need electricity. However the longer we were in the house, the less effective it became, primarily because my long hair kept wrapping around the brushes and knotting it up. It became very tricky to unwind my hair although fairly easy to empty the canisters which were full of dust and crumbs. All in all, it was good for the first few weeks but became ineffective after a few months. I realize I am to blame so don't buy this if you have long hair.

Just an Eh product

We were pretty excited to use this sweeper because it seemed like a greener option -- just using elbow grease, no electricity or chemicals. We were not very thrilled to find out that this sweeper is not really great for picking up crumbs and other small pieces of stuff. This product is supposed to be a combination of a broom and a vacuum eliminating the reason to have both products in the home, but we found out that it's actually too good to be true because it leaves things behind that either have to swept up or vacuumed up causing you to still have two machines in the home. In theory it's a great idea to have in a small house when trying to be more energy efficient and save on space, but in the end it's just an eh product and doesn't really stand up to expectations. If you are looking for just one product to have in the home I would go for either a mop that doubles for wet and dry or just a vacuum that can be used on any type of surface.

Stick to a broom

I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just something basic. I got this thinking it would be easier to use than a broom and can be used over many different surfaces, i.e. linoleum, hard wood, carpet. However, I was wrong and should have done a bit more research. It technically works on all the surfaces I was looking to clean, however it often leaves clearly visible pieces of dirt and debris behind. If I can see it with my own eyes then something is clearly not working here. I thought at the very least, large visible pieces would be picked up and maybe smaller pieces of dirt, those not very visible, would be left behind. Instead, I find that I have to go over hard surface with a broom just to make sure that it is actually clean. I don't even want to think about what was left behind in the carpet after seeing what was on the hard floor. I tried using it a few more times and found the same problem over and over. I gave up and donated it. I'm going to stick with my broom from now on. It's a heck of a lot easier to store and it actually works every time. Sometimes the little extra effort it takes to sweep is clearly worth it. Save your money and just buy a broom instead. You will likely be less frustrated and happier in the long run.

great little sweeper for small spaces

I gave this little sweeper a 10 because its good for what it was made for. No illusions of grandeur here folks! We got this for our lake house, where we track in a bit of dirt and cedar fronds, but not much else. We have Berber carpet and hardwood through most of the house, and this model serves our needs. It is easy to use, is cordless, and is easy to empty. If you have a regular tall kitchen trash can or larger, its no problem at all to empty it neatly into the can. There are no filters to clean or replace, and so far we have not had a big buildup of hair on the beater brushes. That is saying something, what with 4 long haired females and 3 dogs present at most of our visits! I would say that we use this somewhere around 12-15 times per year. We just aren't there as much since its a vacation home. so far the rechargeable battery has held up, but i think its starting to hold less charge after 2 years of infrequent use. I would not recommend this to clean up big messes, or wet messes. That's not what it was made for, so don't expect it to perform to those standards.

Just a mediocre product, but not worth the money

I got this item as a gift, and the person really should have read all of the reviews before purchasing it for me. It has bad reviews on both retail websites as well as consumer review sites. Most people complain that it doesn't pick up the small tiny dirt and debris items like glitter, but I don't use it for that so don't really notice that it doesn't pick up. I use it more to pick up hair and dirt, but the dirt pieces are too small on carpet or hardwood so I really don't know if it picks up everything or not. However, when I go to dump the canister, I do notice lots of hair and small dirt particles, so at least I know it's picking up something! My main gripe is actually with the handle. It's supposed to fold flat so that you can easily get under furniture, but when you try to use that feature, the handle falls apart! All in all, I don't think it's worth the money and you can spend that money to get something better like possible a Shark sweeper.

Only marginally better than a broom

My mom. She hates our dog, and so she got me this sweeper, thinking it would help with, heaven forbid, all the dog hair she complains about on our living room rug. I mean, this is 2011, and we DO own a vacuum that would work for that purpose. So, now I have to store this sweeper in my house, even though I'll rarely use it. It sweeps up SOME things. Big things? No. Dog hair? Not really. Yeah, I can get it out and sweep over our rug and hard woods before someone comes over - and it IS better than a broom since I don't need to then scoop it all up. But, it still takes labor to sweep around the living room. True, it's not as heavy or as bulky as my vacuum, but for the money and TIME? I'd stick with a vacuum!

The Dual Action Sweeper is a nice, but rather unsuccessful idea. We have had one of these for a while now at our church and it is somewhat of a novelty item for kids more than a useful way to clean up. It is lightweight and easy to use, and picks up some stuff but not all. It is fun for the kids because they are amazed that you "don't have to turn it on." But for the adults who are cleaning up- it will pick up most of the larger, stickier things. It completely misses glitter and other small things that get imbedded into the carpet and we have to go back over the area to get the job done. I can't imagine buying one of these for myself because it never picks up everything on its own- I still need a vacuum to go behind it and finish the job. However, it might be a good, fun way to convince younger kids to help clean up!

Not a good investment for a sweeper...

Although i thought it would be a good way to clean my kitchen floor, it didnt help one bit. Even if it did pick up some dust and dirt, it would spit it back out in another spot, makeing it not worth the time or money.

I have used the **Rubbermaid Dual Action Sweeper **for almost a year, I believe its not worth to buy it. Initially when I saw the Ad I was pretty much impressed with the product and when I started using it I was very disappointed. The only easy thing about this Rubbermais Dual Action Sweeper is, its very easy to setup and it prevent your floor from scratching but when considered about cleaning the dust I dont think it does the job perfectly. Even after using the Rubbermaid, I feel I have to clean the floor onc again or try to use the Rubbermaid more than once. But mechanical wise I never had problem with it like the handle getting broken or the equipment getting messed up. All in all I wouldnt recommend this product.

I worked at an Italian restaurant as a waitress. We only used this to clean the restaurant if the vacuum cleaner broke and with good reason. It doesn't pick up enough dirt. It will make the floor look better than if you used nothing at all but it's just barley better than doing nothing. **The Rubbermaid Dual Action Sweeper defintely works better on carpet then bare floor. The **Rubbermaid Dual Action Sweeper gives you a workout. I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy and use one of these over a vacuum cleaner but one thing for sure is that it burns way more calories then a vacuum. These things are time intensive. **** **The maintenance is low though. These things take a licking and they are easy to dump.**
