When my husband and I were shopping around for a good paper shredder, identity theft was the biggest subject on most news stations.  We were drawn to Royals Cross-Cut because it shreds the papers in both directions leaving nothing readable or traceable.  At the time, it was the most expensive shredder that we were looking at but felt that the safety features were well worth the extra investment.  We've had ours for a number of years and it still works like new.  What I also found to be a bonus feature is that you can shred up to 10 copies of standard 8 x 10 paper at one time.  If you invest in an off brand or inexpensive model than you are going to end up paying more in the long run because the device will not last long.  Also other brands only have the single direction cutters which don't destroy what you are putting into them so they defeat the purpose.  At the time we purchased ours it was close to $100.00  and I honestly don't know what one runs now.  As with every other appliance...I am certain the price has come down.  Is it worth buying...You Bet!
