Royal Caribbean - Sovereign of the Seas Review Summary

Royal Caribbean once again earns a high rating from Viewpoints members with it’s Sovereign of the Seas. Budget conscious travelers described the food as “fabulous”. Seconds anyone? People who love to travel say that another plus was that there was “so much to do”. Reviewers did not like the fact that drinks (besides coffee, tea, iced tea and lemonade) were not free. Many felt that they were being “nickeled and dimed” on this particular Royal Caribbean cruise. Undecided? We’ve got plenty more Royal Caribbean Cruise Line reviews.

It had been awhile since I had been on a cruise and was anxiously awaiting a fun, relaxing weekend.  I went with my mother, sister, and sister-in-law and overall we had a great time (although we are fun people and would have a great time anywhere being together).  I was debating… read full review »

Of all the cruises I've been on, this one TOPPED them all. The "FUN SHIPS" were a bit TOO fun for my family...lots of drunk college kids that I didn't really want around my early teens. Royal Caribbean had plenty of fun things for the kids, lots for hubby and I, as well as great ports of call to check out. We had such a great time! — The food was by far better than the "FUN SHIPS"...service was divine...from cabin steward to wait staff to random crew members we ran into on board. We were able to hang out on the side decks and read with glasses of great wine while the kids swam or did… read full review »

We been on four cruises on the Sovereign and she has yet to disappoint us.  This is a perfect cruise for first timers and a great choice for a short getaway for couples and families alike.  Yes, the cabins on this ship are small, but we don't spend much time in ours. The decor is very pretty.  Everything may not be brand, spanking new, but it's clean and neat as a pin.  Our stateroom attendants on all of the cruises were efficient and friendly. If you want to stay on a higher deck and save some money, book a cabin on the Mariner deck. The views are somewhat… read full review »

We chose Royal Carribean for our first cruise ever, and are we glad we did.  We went to the Bahamas from Port Caniveral in FL.  Our cruise was a 5 day adventure from day one.  To begin with, it was a very organized check-in, the staff was all so friendly and we were so excited to begin a new type of adventure.  The ship was so clean and we explored as much of the ship as possible on our first afternoon on board, so much to see.  The food was fabulous all during the trip.  We found ourselves relaxing on the top deck a lot of the time.  It was so amazing… read full review »

This was our first cruise and so we didn't know what to expect.  Once you get on the ship it is unbelieveable.  Everything is chrome and glass.  It is a city on water. You have one floor that are duty free shops which are not open until you leave port.  The dinners are amazing and if you don't want to be in the main dining room you have a pizzeria, a Johnny Rockets 50's type place, you have a buffet that I swear is open 24 hours a day.  There are plenty of things to do on the ship but also if you can, when your ship docks at different islands you need to get off the… read full review »

We were celebrating a 50th anniversary with a large group of our family.  We were accommodated at every meal for seating and had plenty to do while on the ship on sea days.  The wait stay was more than accommodating and tried to see that we had everything that we asked or wanted for.  Although I felt the prices were a little high for some of the amenities they offered in the salon.  I have my hair cut every month, and go to a very nice salon but the prices on the ship were more than double what I pay and that was excessive.  I like to be pampered, but I have… read full review »

Sovereign of the Seas is a wonderful ship to start out on. My family of 4 began cruising in 2002 and started with Sovereign. It was a 3 day 4 nighter with a ocean view (window) room. The service was excellent. The wait staff in the dining rooms were so into their jobs. THey really get a one on one experience with each table. YOu really get to know them. ALotta fun!!! The ships layout was very easy to understand and get use to. The entertainment was always an A++... Exquisit taste at the Captain's Ball the second night of the cruise. Whole lots of fun!! — anyone looking for a first… read full review »

This was my 5th cruise, and my 2nd with Royal Caribbean. — The ship was luxurious wihtout overdoing it, clean and beautiful. It was neatly maintained all day, every day, without this being a burden on "traffic". — We had a stateroom with balcony: the cabin itself was not very spaceous, but the bathroom was really cramped. — Staff is friendly throughout the ship. — The food was of good quality, although the buffets were largely the same every day. — The specialty restaurants were really worthwhile, but it was not easy to make a reservation. — My 2 cruises… read full review »

We sailed last month with a group of 13 including 4 generations of our family!  My grandfather, who is in his 80's, said that it was the BEST 4 days of his life.  It was a first cruise for both him & my grandmother, also in her 80's.  The younger children with us, ages 3-7, had a blast in the kids program & begged to go every night.  My 12 & 15 year old sons LOVED the rock wall!  :)  All of my kids even told me that they liked it better than Disney!  That was good to hear since their only past cruise experience was on Disney!  I would definitely… read full review »

I've been on numerous Carnival cruises.  Traveling on the Sovereign of the Seas was my first for Royal Caribbean.  The Sovereign of the Seas had a sewage back-up problem on several decks during our cruise.  Have heard since, that this is a typical problem with that ship.  The food was no better or no worse than the Carnival cruises I've been on.  Yes the cabins are a lot smaller and the bed when separated into a twin is narrower than a normal twin bed.  For me, a comfortable night's sleep as hard to come by on this ship.  Never got to see Coco Cay, the… read full review »

This ship is beautiful and the staff are very attentive, though not intrusive. My husband and I cruised on this ship for our honeymoon and could not have been happier. The food was excellent, and there was entertainment all the time. There were a lot of dining options. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were treated like royalty. There was plenty of on-deck seating available, we never had to fight for a chair to sit in the sun. — Didn't have to walk through a smoky casino to get to the restaurants! — The on-board gift shop was a bit too pricey. —… read full review »

Granted, drinks cost extra, except for iced tea, lemonade (OJ in the morning) and coffee.  But we knew that going in.  Check in at the Port was easy and fast.  Had no problems finding our stateroom (but it was so SMALL!) and had a nice relaxing time.  The kids (ages 12 & 17) hung out in the teen area for the entire time, and loved it.  The food, while not amazing, was good and there was certainly plenty of it.  Overall, I'd say we'd go… read full review »

The cruise had excellent destinations, with beautiful beaches and a lot of excursions to choose from.  On the ship, the food was excellent & service was above & beyond.  However, for a younger couple, there was not a lot to do on the ship, especially on the day at sea.  This, of, course, is a good opportunity to relax, though.  Also, if you are a big drinker, you could easily rack up a bill with drinks, since they are extra & not… read full review »

A cruise is an expensive way to get to know different places in a short period of time.  The good thing about a cruise is that you don't have to spend a lot of money.  You don't have to pay for a hotel or car rental or food.  All of that is included in your stay.  Be wary of drinks.  They are not included in the price (except for coffee, tea, iced tea and lemonade). … read full review »
